I'm not too worried about the cowl. I'm just going to go ahead and build one myself. I'm thinking I might just leave the bottom left of the area open, so there's plenty of cooling (see attached really lame drawing, made with MS Paint).

Just to bring everything up to date, I have so far completed the Left Wing Panel and framed up the Right Wing Panel (sheeting to occur tonight). And while the sheeting is drying on the top half of the Right Wing Panel, I'm planning on filling and sanding the Left Wing Panel until it's good to go.

My only two mods will be making a shaped balsa cowl, and sheeting the turtledeck.

For information on what will be in this plane, check out "My Models" (link under this post).

Yesterday's build went a fair bit faster than the first wing panel I built, because I didn't have to spend nearly as much time reading the instructions. However, I think it could have gone faster.

The reason I say that is because yesterday it first occurred to me that I could build and listen to my .mp3 player (a Creative Zen Micro - Silver 5GB, by the way). The thing is, I was listening to a podcast by switched: on. A really funny podcast that made me have to stop building several times so I could hold my hands steady after all the laughing.

So basically, don't listen to comedy while trying to build. Laughing makes placing parts rather difficult.

I keep a TV running in my build room. I'm so addicted to so many shows that I just can't go without them. I need therapy, but at least I know it.

Well, today I've got my builer's hat on too. Finally got my Avistar wing repaired and recovered. (Imagind a gorilla taking your wing and breaking it over his knee at the center joint...) I had to completely rebuild the center 6". So while I was at it, I took out the dihedral. Now some minor fuse work and I'll be back in the saddle again.

So for 8 hrs on a wing panel, that's nothing. I'm sure I spent at least that or more on mine and I've probably got 15 or more in my repair job. However, I don't even bother keeping track of hours logged. I build for fun and relaxation. And I probably only get 10 min to 2 hrs. at any given time, so it would be a real PITA to keep track anyway. I look at it that when it's done, it's done. Nobody's keeping score and everyone would rather see you take whatever time you need to do it right. Our opinion of your build time means nothing to you or us, but the quality of your plane means everything to you. And since you're footing the bill, your opinion counts.

I'm like Bruce, I have to have the TV on when I'm building. This goes all the way back before I was in college. I've always needed the TV on, even when I was doing homework it was on. I know that sometimes I can get distracted by a show that's on, but I've tried to build with it off and I just can't seem to concentrate with it being so quiet.

I guess we all have our own different habits, so it really boils down to what you like when you're building.

Compared to the last few days, today's posting has gone kinda slow hasn't it?

I guess I just need to get home and build then! Only 1 hour and 40 minutes to go.

Wish I could.... Though I may be getting a three day weekend thanks to hurricane Katrina. We're looking at being closed down Monday unless it changes course.

There are downsides to living 15 minutes from one of the most gorgeous beaches in the US.

You could be down a lot longer than that. We have our own power generating system here and fuel to run for 2 weeks 24/7 if we need to. Both our building and the entire FedEx facility at the airport. We are not shutting down.

Sadly, our offices never seem to be without power for more than a day. And if there's power, we're supposed to show for work. Even if our homes don't have power yet. Kinda sucks actually.

In the Fla heat (like Memphis) without air-conditioning, I would rather be at work where there is. As long as the home is otherwise OK.

True, when Dennis came through I went to work before we had power at home, and I was glad I did. The AC at work was so much better than sitting around in my hot and humid house.

Dont you guys work? Oh guess i am doing the same thing. Looks good so far. You know once you get hooked on building then flying the plane you will have to get another and another. My cowl is a little squared off because I was not sure about covering the compound curves. Been fighting with the monokote on the last two planes. Believe the Monokote is winning. Got the radio equipment in mine and ready to balance the plane laterally then cover the wings after weight is added to left wing. Guess it is time to go back to work.

Work? Why? I get paid the same to do this. Seriously, my job puts me at the computer a lot and I can usually get my posts up pretty quick after I spend a little time thinking about them first.
