Here are some pictures. Great quality, just as good as my E.F. Yak. Just waiting for the rest of my equiptment. DA 50 w/pitts muffler, Duralite 4000mah 7.4v w/6v reg. for rx, 2000mah nimh 4.8v for ignition, 4 Hitec 5945's, 1 5955 for rudder, ect... You can't appreciate how nice the covering is unless you see it in person. Everything appears to be built strong, yet light. I would weigh everything but I don't have a scale.

I was wondering about the difference of 1320 vs 1450 sq in of wing surface area (85" vs 87" wing span of QQ vs. EF). How much difference will this make in flight performance? I realize over all weight of the plane will be important to factor in. How many planes came in the first shipment? I was on the waiting list but have not heard anything

Yea, construction looks similar to the EF product. Same factory?? Color scheme of the QQ and EF are the best out there. man, some of the other manufacturers must be living in the early 70's

I'm not sure how many they have in, but I know they are in the process of notifying everyone on the list and shipping them out. I just happened to be one of the first to recieve it, I guess I got lucky. I'm sure yours will be there very soon. It comes from the same factory as the E.F. Yak, so the construction is very much like it. I have the 68" E.F. Yak and have stressed the airframe way beyond what I ever thought it would stand without any problems. I just don't think you can get a better built arf than the QQ and E.F. period. I don't think the wing area will make any difference in how well it flies, besides it is two inches shorter that E.F.. Quique designed it and would not have released it if it wasn't as good or better than anything out there. They really want the best for everyone, and the proof is Quique moving out to Ohio so he and Wayne can better run the business. Just so you know the plane was tested with the 3W engine, so Quique said it may need nose weight or radio equiptment adjusted from what the manual shows with the DA 50. It comes with a templet for both engines. The flying manual will be on his web site within the next couple of weeks. I will keep you posted on whatever I find while building it.

Does this plane have a pipe tunnel like the EF?

No pipe tunnel like the E.F.. I will try to get some more detailed photographs in the morning. When I talked to Quique he said to use a pitts style muffler, so I don't think he intended on people using a pipe, but I'm sure that it can be done with minor mods to the fuse.

Went over the covering tonight just to make sure everything was sealed. I don't think I even had to, everything was perfect. I'm just waiting for my radio equiptment and DA 50 and I will have her done. The quality of the covering is better than I have seen with other arfs. Most of the time you have to spend hours just removing wrinkles, but I did the whole plane in about 20 minutes. No wrinkles or imperfections at all. I was not sure of the flat pinned hinges at first, but after test fitting everything I am sure they will work perfect. All slots are precut perfectly.

Guys, I just spoke with Wayne. He is a one man operation right now since Quique is in the process of moving. He is trying to contact everyone one the list, so just bear with him, he will get to you. He has already sent some planes out without some of the hardware accidentally so if you got one just give him a call and he will get it out to you A.S.A.P.. If you can't wait for his call, give him a call at the contact number on the web site and he will take care of you.

Hey guys, I have some more photo's from tonight. Everything is trial fitted, and fit perfect. No warps or twists in fuse, everything appears to be perfect. Servos arrived today, still waiting for the rest of the equiptment though. As you can see the quality is perfect.

Lee..is the wing tube CF ? Are there 2 separate wing bags or just one bag to hold both wings? How do the wings attach?

Yes and there is only one wing bag for both wings and the tube. You can see it in the first group of pictures I posted under the table in the box. There are two aluminum anti-rotation pins, one at the front and one at the rear. You slide a rubber o-ring and washer onto the pin then insert a clip into a hole on the pin behind the washer. It is very fast and easy. Go to Somenzini.com and look at the pictures in the online manual.

Got my Yak-In-A-Box today as well. As the "other" Lee, mentioned, I am missing some of the standard hardware. I emailed Wayne to let him know since it's late evening in Ohio right now. I'll call him tomorrow to double back.

I already fly the QQ 72" Yak with YS140L. I'll still fly the 72" at smaller, glow only fields, where gassers are not permitted. I will likely fly this one a bunch more. It really looks even better larger. There were 2 of the 102" QQ Yaks last weekend when I flew at Manteno, including Andy Jesky's. It really presents wonderfully in the air, and it doesn't hurt that Andy is such a talented pilot!

Lee, are you going to use the 650cc supplied tank? Balance - I was slightly concerned about balancing it with my DA50 after skimming the manual. The manual indicates it was designed for the heavier 3W50, and they include references to 3W50, 3W56, ZDZ50 and ZDZ80! I did feel better when I noticed the supplied pre-drilled ply motor mount drill guide for the 3W50 AND for the DA50R. Anyhow, looking forward to hear how they balance.

I only got a guide for the 3W. Did you get two seperate guides, and if you did could you give me measurements for the DA 50 since I didn't get the guide for it? I talked to Wayne and he is aware that some of the hardware is missing. Just give him a call and he will get it out to you.

I am curious how much weight will be needed to balance with the DA50? What is the difference in weight btw. the two engines?

Around a pound. Adding weight shouldn't affect the performance since he designed it and tested it with the 3W which is a pound heavier anyway. If I have to add weight I may add a smoke system so the weight is usefull.

Hope the photos help, mxcop.

On page 6 of the manual, after reference to photo 31, Wayne suggests using the standoff blocks with the DA50. I estimate this will put the DA50's prop drive approx 8mm (5/16" ) further forward than the 3W50. This would help a tiny bit with balance. This is only my estimate, though, using the dimensional data posted on aircraftinternational and DA sites, and assuming the use of the supplied 2-1/2" DA standoffs. I also assume the added aluminum backplate for the 3W is 3mm thick.

3W50
http://aircraftinternational.com/catalog/motors/3w050i/3w50i_spec.jpg

148mm + 3mm + 18mm wood block = 169mm to prop drive from the firewall.

DA50
http://desertaircraft.com/images/engines/da50top.jpg

3.751 inches + 2.5" standoffs + .71" (18mm) = 6.96" = 177mm to prop drive from the firewall.

your mileage may vary.
