I just picked up my Savage 25 and was breaking it in. I went start the truck after letting the engine cool down from idling. I put the rotostart in and hit the button for a second and no more. The gears inside the rotostart broke on me. Cost me 24.95 to get new gears.

Whats up with the cheap guts inside the rotostart? Seems like the gears arent very durable. There like diecast metal. Rest of the truck seems of good quality. I think these rotostarts could be better though. Sucks when they break cause thats the only way to start the truck without a pull start.

Other then that im loving the savage. Killer truck. But Id rethink these rotostarts. Make the gears out of a stronger material. This is one thing that really ticks ya off when it doesnt work cause you cant start the truck.

Are these gears covered on warranty? Id at least maybe like to get a free set incase it happens again. I mean these gears stripped really fast.. i had the truck about and hour.

The gears are covered by warranty, you can give our Customer Service guys a call and they'll help get you some replacements.

When the engine is new it has the most compression, so that time is hardest on the Roto-start. Run the starter for short bursts only, anything over about 10 seconds is too long. Also make sure that the engine isn't flooded, if it is you will hear the Roto-start bog down. If you hear that, remove the glow plug and empty out the excess fuel. Forcing the engine to start while it is flooded will definitely hurt the Roto-start and/or internals of the engine.

A good tip for new engines is to unscrew the glow plug a little to relieve some of the compression of the new engine. Once the engine starts you can tighten it while it is running.
