I have had several problems with radio installation in my c.g. freedom 20 trainer.
After changing the whole radio equipment( emitter and receiver) I would like to correct as well something I think could be incorrect.
Layout is:

Battery is just behind firewall and under the tank, (foam wrapped)
Behind this is located the receiver and the next is servo trail, so receiver antenna pass ( about 3" ) over or under the servos.

Is this ok?

This should work fine, I have seen this done numerous times. However I would try and route the antenna wire away from all other wires, pushrods, servos, battery and switches. This is preferred method.

Do a range check with and without the engine running to verify range.

What Michael says is true. Just try and keep the receiver and it's antenna, seperated from all power, and servo wiring.

Your criteria should be a good range check. About 50 paces with your Tx antenna collapsed.
