Status: offline 		JKR..................Graupner props are made in Germany, not in Ontario. I suppose that is why they're a bit more expensive. I use a Graupner 3-blade on the H9 Corsair.

Status: offline 		I have quite a few Graupner 3-blade props with the latest to be fit to the 125a on Rare Bear once the test flights are out of the way. Thinking of painting it chrome. If I could find some appropriate size Hartzell or other stickers that would really help the scale look.

Status: offline 		Ref. 3 bladed props .... Xoar and Zinger make a sell them but, they are bit pricey.  Xoar's smallest size is a 14x6 three blade ($42 approx) and Zinger starts in the 10 inch size.  Their 14x6 is the same price as the Xoar I think.

Them Graupners are some hard-turning props. Sound great though. My 125 like the MA 14x9 prop best of all the 3-bladers that I've tried. (too many to admit)

Status: offline 		It was Horizon that discontinued the 40 and 30 because they thought electrics had taken over the world. Saitro never quit making them.

You mean painting the rare bear chrome and not the prop. Right ?

When a propeller is painted, extra coats of paint can be used as a way to balance the prop.

You have to allow for the added weight of the vehicle (liquid) weight as the paint will weigh less once it dries. Ater the prop ahs a base coat, misting on "dry" coats a little @ a time is the best method to achieve balance.

I made that question because if the prop was to be painted, rebalancing the prop again is too time consuming. Graupner has specific instructions regarding their props.

Status: offline 		I have found that two part epoxy paint like K&B or Hobby Poxy works the best for balancing props.   It is much better than sanding and removing material from the blades.  Regular paint has a vehicle or thinner that dries and makes the dried paint lighter than when it was applied.

Status: offline 		On props.  Have any of you seen the wrinkles that develop at the blade root on APC props when you push "real power" through them.  They look a bit like ladies "stretch marks", apologies for that where required, old fart knows what I mean there.
Any way if you do see them (the marks, retire the prop or use at your peril.  It means one blade has now grown longer than the other, doubt me measure the 2 blades for yourself.  If the blade lets go in flight at any sort of good RPM the worst that happens is a "lunched engine" followed by a re kitted model, on the ground is another matter and look out any one in the way of the loose blade.
In case you were wondering I use APC and Bolley's (sparingly) and yes MA's can't get a reliable source of the right sized Graupner or Superior where I am so I collect them in my travels.

Status: offline 		Yes i've seen the stretch marks you talk about on a couple of my apc's but balance seemed ok and hav'nt had a failure.A mate chucked half a blade in flight vibration looked unreal from where i was standing,real exciting and a bit hard on the firewall

Status: offline 		The reports on APC blade root failures when bolted to 4-strokes kept me from ever fitting one for that app.

As for failures: ANY prop that has had a ground strike, especially while under power, should be inspected carefully. As with real aircraft these are the types of stresses or damage that can come out later to bite you.

Old Fart, your friends blade failure and my own experience when first learning to tune Saitos have me cringe EVERY time I watch a Youtube vid with the camera well within the danger arc of a prop.

FNQFLYER......................I am 100 percent with you and i take your warnings seriously. How about a close-up picture of these marks at the blade root on APC props if it's possible ? A picture is worth a thousand words. Personally i do believe your observations, but at times we do ignore these signs.

Status: offline 		Can't help mike tho i can say i just bought a 15x1.25mm die nut for my fg57 with the idea of cutting a thread on some stainless pipe i have to make up two short shotgun pipes.The die nut wants to cut to deep a thread like over a mil deep and the saito thread tho fine pitch looks to be about .5mill deep,not so good so far
