Status: offline 		I haven't had a blade stretch for a while now, when I am "racing" I usually use carbon fibre props, though those are getting problematical now as some of the cheaper ones are exhibiting voids in the carbon tow lay ups.
Fortunately I have access to the equipment to manufacture my own when I run out of these props.  (When I heard Bolly was out of business I visited every hobby shop I could and bought their entire stock of props and have been swapping and selling ever since)
For the average person blade stretch and tip seperation etc should never a problem because most of the average props are pretty tolerant and lets face it they aren't as stressed as some of he stuff I operate with.
As for the photo request I am going to Brisbane to do the grand father thing this Xmas and I'll try to get some photos of props and Satos at the fields I compete at.
With regards to Old Farts comment, if you see the stretch marks, measure both blades, if one isn't longer than the other I will bet it has a void (hollow inside) and if to were to try to balance it you would see what I mean.  Ive seen this situation destroy a YS 63 and a very hot worked Rossi 40 to name but 2, gave up on counting the pylon engines. (I didn't own them)

Status: offline 		Old Fart, best to use  a lathe to cut those threads.  I bought a small chinese lathe from Minetech in Brisbane for doing bits on model engines some 2 years ago, still has cosmoline (or similar) on it and my mate at the local MRO is still cutting my threads etc on the big Colson he has at work.  I use thread dies etc for "quickie" jobs but prefer a lathe for the finer work I use a lathe and my current arrangement leaves me free to do projects thought up by "she who must be obeyed".  I usually fix his model a/c problems (read engines) for him in return.

Status: offline 		Don't know for sure Mike. Mine is for an older 72 with a SAI72144 part number. You might search Horizon for your engine. (Good Luck, not the best search engine I have ever used).

In particular, I am looking for that tiny o-ring for a older Saito 90T and an older Saito 100T.

Very likely, http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/upgrade-carb-rebuild-kit-50-5-SAI50144 will fit, but I'd have to buy 4, since they have 2 each... And they are out of stock to boot.


I just wonder if that tiny O-ring is in the carb set...and how many different sizes there actually are....

Status: offline 		Hi fnq you are right about the lathe they do make things easier re thread cutting,looks like i'll have to make the trip and see a gunsmith mate who may be able to help.Is it possible to buy a 15x1.25 pitch die nut that will cut a shallow thread like these engines have on the exhaust side??

Status: offline 		Yes you can usually from specialist tool sales people.  I use Blackmores or a guy I found that sells gunsmith supplies.  I would check out somewhere like A Man's Toy Store in either Rocky or Brownsville (TSV) I have had a great deal of success with Minetech in Brisbane as well.  The later if they haven't got the device can generally point you in the right direction.

Status: offline 		Old Fart what I usually do in these cases is cut the thread on solid rod cut the thread down to just above the desired depth of thread and then run the whole deal trough the lathe again with the tool pulled back o just touching to sharpen up the thread.  Then I progressively bore out the guts until the desired hole size is reached.  That is of course assuming I don't have the desired die.

Status: offline 		Hi bruce thanks for the advice it confirms what i was thinking.For now i'm going to cut short the supplied flexi pipes as they obviously have the right attachment elbows and threads as is,will still cut them much shorter and drop them straight out the bottom of the cowl.Hope it sounds heaps louder and am still planning on the custom stainless shotgun pipes in the future.I'm amazed nobody here talks about exhaust systems much,they make a big difference to your audio experience,specially when your aeroplane blats past

Status: offline 		Here's a piston out of an old FA-90.

It's my buddy's engine that he bought used over 10 years ago and never ran. The bearings are ratchety but upon inspection, they probably were just dry with castor residue dried on them.

There's pencil marks on the tops of the pistons. I doubt it ran for more than one tank. It has the vane-thingy on the back plate, but it turns freely so I will not be opening that strange thing up for inspection.

The rods have brass/bronze bushings on the crank and on the wrist. The valve seats are bronze, as well. By looking inside the cylinder you cannot tell which valve is the exhaust and which is the intake. Zero darkening on the exhaust valve at all.

It's the first Saito I ever saw that has head bolts (3).

The piston has no ring, just a groove. I presume it is not the 90TMK2, which apparently has rings...Was the previous version called MK1?

How old is this engine?

Edit: From reading this article, I'd guess 1982-1983. Seems they only made the MK1 for a couple years... http://images.rcuniverse.com/forum/upfiles/129907/Wu62109.pdf
