With no vent the crank case pressure will rise to the point that there is no amount of oil getting past the ring. In other words, yes, the plugged vent could have given you a problem.

Bill.

#60 here,
I have my Saito82 mounted side winder in an acrowot, the exhust looks very vulnerable to catching the ground if I nose over, could be a very costly repair. Does anyone do a shorter header pipe?
By the way this engine is great, still running rich as it sucked a 14oz tank dry in just under 10 mins, and when I say dry I mean every last drop. Not many engines can do that!

Leigh.

a340, ive had my header hit the dirt twice and bent it a little each time and didnt cost any, i just cut it at the bend and cleaned up the threads a little and it worked great,i like them a little shorter anyway

New, welcome #63, p-51@charter.net to the asylum.

a340 -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/23/2005 8:22:56 AM)

Cheers William, gjeffers,
I was a bit worried that it would damage the head/barrel. I may take gjeffers sugestion and cut the pipe down a bit. If I wanted to extend the thread a bit do u think just running a 12mm die down the pipe would work?

William Robison -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/23/2005 8:51:44 AM)

Airbus:

Sorry, I (and I suppose Gary) assumed you had the later exhaust, the straight pipe that is threaded full length. Talking about extending the thread, yours must be the curved pipe.

So long as you have a really food quality 12 mm die with a 1.0 mm pitch you should be able to cut more threads on it, but be careful and use a good cutting oil. The pipes are very hard, a "Harbor Freight" die will probably break before it cuts anything.

You might do better getting the SAI8075B straight 12 mm pipe for $9.75, it's long enough that if you cut it in half both pieces will be long enough to mount the muffler. If yours is the cast muffler you can still rotate it out of the way.

Bill.

a340 -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/23/2005 10:01:57 AM)

William,gjeffers,
sorry for not explaining myself properly [sm=rolleyes.gif].It is the curved pipe and what looks like a 2 piece cast muffeler.
Thanks again for the advice,
Leigh.

William Robison -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/23/2005 10:18:02 AM)

Leigh:

Here's the straight pipe I was talking about.

Hi all,
I just acquired a Saito 90T Mark II. It's sufficiently different from the 90TS that the TS manual isn't of great help. Does anyone have a 90T manual they'd be willing to photocopy for me (I'd reimburse and pay shipping)?
Doug

William Robison -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/25/2005 8:09:45 PM)

DP:

Use the manual for the FA-100T - almost the same engine you have.

You are number 64.

Bill.

kompara -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/26/2005 5:07:20 PM)

Guys,
Please check out my listing titled "Saito 65 Bent Crankshaft?" I have a Saito 100 and the 65 GK.
The 100 runs great, the 65 used to...now it just looks pretty. Any help would be appreciated...I don't have much time before the weather closes in here in Ohio.
Ol' Bob Hisself

William Robison -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/26/2005 5:17:07 PM)

Bob:

Nothing comes up for me in that search. Can you give a link?

Regarding the crank, I've straightened many Saito crank shafts. PM or email for details.

Bill.

William Robison -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/26/2005 5:24:52 PM)

Bob:

You are in as #65, kompara.

CU:

If you measure the outside diameter of the intake pipes, I think youl'll find the older one is larger. Saito decreased the size to keep the air flow higher, giving more consistent running. They did not alter the cylinder to match the smaller size, that's where our current vibration and intake leaks have come from. At least that's my opinion.

First ran into this with an FA-80. Had a dent in the intake pipe, ordered a new one. When it got here it rattled around loosely in the head. I reused the old one, the new one is in my parts bin.

If you do find your pipes are different, you can order the later replaement.

While the difference in the muffler is there, I don't think it will make any real difference.

Bill.

Well, finally going to get around to finding out what pipe i have. I have a noisy bearing on my new one, so i need to remedy the old one so i have someting too fly. Will let u know my findings.

a340 -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/26/2005 8:22:10 PM)

Well I emailed Horizon hoby on Friday to see if they would send out a straight header pipe to me in the UK, still waiting on a reply [:o] .

Ernie Misner -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/26/2005 8:59:28 PM)

Well count me in here somewhere. I have a new Saito 82 that I haven't even fired up yet. Should I put some silicone rubber on the intake manifold o-ring while everything is still new and clean???

Thanks,

Ernie

William Robison -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/26/2005 9:17:03 PM)

Ernie:

Hold the cylinder in one hand, with the other pull on the intake pipe. If you can move the pipe with moderate pressure seal it, and order a new backplate. Do the order by phone, talk to Dennis Davenport. Explain the problem, he'll take care of you. If it's nicely rigid you can put some RTV in as insurance, but you'll probably be OK without it.

Bill.

William Robison -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/26/2005 9:20:17 PM)

Ernie:

You're already on the list as number 28.

GONE2THERIVER -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/27/2005 2:23:08 AM)

Hello,
Gary here,
Got a Saito 82 on my U-can-do 46. I mounted the du-bro fuel filler in the top of the cowl instead of the side because of all the fuel related problems I have read here. No Siphon problems but it floods allot on cold start up. I have read in the threads about the cline regulator. Sounds like a good solution 4 this. Any one know where to buy one or any other cures for this problem. Also can I be a member? Thanks to all who post the great info on this site!!!

William Robison -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/27/2005 2:38:02 AM)

Gary:

Get the Cline here. Also some good information on how it works.

You now have number 66 as GONE2THERIVER.

PS: Is that the river Styx? Are you waiting for Charon to row you across? Haw. wr.

Texastbird -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/27/2005 2:42:27 AM)

Hi, my Buddy is having a lot of trouble keeping the muffler tight on his 1.80 in his Patrick Cub. Any suggestions? He's tried loctite on the threads and its still getting loose from the head on almost every flight.

William Robison -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/27/2005 2:45:45 AM)

TB:

The method that works for me is to tighten the locking nut when the engine is fully warm. Others have had good results using teflon tape on the threads. Maybe the best would be the tape and tighten when hot.

Bill.

Texastbird -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/27/2005 2:53:46 AM)

OK, thanks Bill for the quick reply. We had discussed the merit of tightening the nuts when hot but he is an engineer and needs lots of "encouragement" to try things. I will let him know that you have recommended this method and also the teflon tape. At this point he really has nothing to lose.
As an added thought, have you tried the Slimline Pitts muffler for a four stroke? I was thinking it could be secured to the engine mount and it might resist loosening up. But I haven't seen one or heard much at all about them.

William Robison -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/27/2005 3:02:27 AM)

TT:

I've never tried any accessory exhausts on a 4s engine, other than running a pure straight pipe.

Experience on 2s engines has been that most aftermarket mufflers need careful carb adjustment, even more than with the stock mufflers, to get reliable engine run.

Bill.

freeonthree -> RE: Welcome to Club SAITO ! (9/27/2005 7:20:13 AM)

Here's one of mine... If ya saw my other post, this is the 72 that does'nt want to idle smooth below 2500 rpm, but I still love it... We'll figure it out someday. LOL
