Another question if I may (as part of my continuing education here) I put a little too much torque on my prop nut on the Saito .72 while tightening it and stripped the nut... No problem say I, I will order another one... Oh yea... My original prop nut was a washer with a hole large enough for a flange on the nut to fit into and a chinch nut. For a replace ment they sent me the prop nut set for a .56 wich is approx a 3rd smaller in size and is just a nut against a washer and a chinch nut.. Since you told me how, I checked the part numbers and sure enough, they show a .56 prop nut as a replacement for a .72 nut now... This sure looks small on the .72... You wouldn't happen to know the part number for the original size .72 prop nut set would you ?... Seems like everything I order for the .72 is now a .56 part...
Thanks
Roger

Finest Glow Engine I have ever had, Saito 1.80 on a bud nosen champ and a .72 on a Goldberg Cub Clipwing, they seem to last longer than the OS, I am comtemplating in cleaning the 1.80 it has alot of varnish stains on the exterior but runs great

Roger:

The Saito FA-56 through FA-91 all have the same prop nut thread. What you probably were sent is just the lock nut, SAI56110.

Your original nut comes with the coned washer, SAI5628 gets you the single nut and washer set. The later version, for which I think you got just the lock nut, is SAI56135. This version does use two nuts, one smaller than the other. Ordering this number gets all three pieces.

So, to go original your number is SAI5628, price is $5 plus freight. Call Horizon and ask for Dennis Davenport. Explain what happened, he might cut you some slack since it would seem to have been a misunderstanding. May help if you tell him I told you to call. But maybe not - your choice.

Plane Jim:

Your number is 42. If Sigman approves.

Bill.

Thanks. The part I ordered was SAI56135... It consist of a washer, nut and lock nut.. It is a much smaller setup then the orighinal one. The threads fit, the nuts and washer are much smaller though and the nut does not fit into the washer as the original did... It does fit the engine, just looks awfully small compared to the original... I did a search on the SAI5628 but wouldn't you know it no picture or discription...
Guess I will call...
Thanks again
Roger
You do know your Saito's

Here are two shots of the older style. I'm still using the earlier fastener on some of my installations. When I use a spinner though, I get the set from Tru-Turn.

Here's my first 4-stroke, an .82 in all its glory before the cowl went on. Awesome engine. Wish the muffler still looked like that. The first time the exhaust pipe came loose, the castor turned it brown.

Bill AKA the answer man
That looks like it... I think I will place an order for that part number and see what I get... The smaller (3165) may work but dang I hate it when the props come flying off...
Thanks Again

My personal favorite as far as appearance is the Golden Knight Saito 30, mounted upright exposed on a little biplane. These 2 golden valve covers have a commanding presence on such a small engine. It looks much better than a Surpass 26.

For the guys who have pumps, and the one fellow who quit using a pump because of difficulty priming for startup.... how do you get the engine wet for starting with a pump??

Thanks loads and thanks to WR for the great info and replies!

Ernie:

Priming with a pump is no problem at all. Works just like normal - finger over the exhaust, full throttle, spin the engine. Remember the pump has no effective restriction for fuel flowing to the engineThat's why a pump works fine with a remote or low tank, but not a high tank.

A regulated pressure system is similar, the plugged exhaust will build the tank pressure pretty fast, but actual priming can be a bother if your engine doesn't have a choke. An electric starter is recommended.

Bill.

Man, is it ever flown! Good point and that's exactly how I do look at it! And I use castor by choice to help protect my awesome engine in case I mess up and get it a little too hot. Small price to pay for a little extra protection.

Still looks good after about 35 flights. I could have had the Golden Knight version for the same price and debated which way to go. Decided I liked the shiny silver look better. Now I think the GK might have looked pretty good with my bronze muffler and black exhaust pipe.

Either way, it's a beauty.

Perhaps you'd like my "Black Knight" version. This is what they look like when I finish one.

Hobbsy has a small block FA-30 I did a while back.

First is an FA-120S (the hot version) and the second is an FA-80. Third picture is for comparison with the first - it's current production FA-120S. Look at the difference in the intake pipe.

Bill.

Ive got the new Saito 220 on a Areowork 300 Profile It hovers at 1/4 throttle and I LOVE IT. I own 26 Big Single Saito and by far they and Horizon have the best service on the planet for any engine Hands down.... Thumbs up !
