Gentlemen, I have read a lot of this thread, but not all of it. It seems that everyone (understandably) has a different opinion on what fuel to use. I have acquired several Saitos within the last few months, changed over from 2-Strokes (still have 2 ,OS's 46AX,.61FX) in Pylon planes . I like Byrons 15% fuel for the 2-strokes, It seems to have more power than Omega15% and runs a little cleaner. My Saitos are 1- FA 100, 1-91, 1-82, 1-56, 1-40, 1-30. The .82 is new and the rest are like new. The 100 has about 1 gallon of PM 20/20 through it. Would I be wise in running PM 20/20 in all, or would PM 4-Stroke (15% Nitro 15% Synthetic/Castor), or Byrons 4-Stroke(15% Nitro 16% Synthetic/Castor) work just as well? I do use afterun oil. Also I would like to become a member of the club.

Thanks for your help.
Steve

SC, I primarily run WildCat fuel with 18% 80/20 blend but last summer I got a deal on 6 gallons of PM 15% with 18% 80/20 blend. It ran fine in my Saitos but I'm back to the WildCat simply because its easier to get.

Steve

Any of the fuels you mentioned should be fine

I ran Omega 15% for several years then Rich's Brew 15% with the 80/20 oil blend
Now I have Wildcat Super Premium 15% with the 80/20 oil.

They all ran the same to me.

Hey Jim, I was going to call you today but I've got a bad sore throat, (is there a good one), and can hardly talk. Bobby has two cases of WildCat 15% Premium Extra for me, I'm going to pick it up when my Saito 1.15 comes in.

I went flying Saturday with my Son-in-law and flew the LT-40 tail dragger with a OS 52. There was like a 10 knot steady wind blowing. The OS was bad about surging at first. At least the Saito engines are not so bad about the surging. There was another guy there with a DA 50.

You have asked the question for which there is no absolute answer and you will get as many definitive answers as the number of answers you receieve. I have used Cool Power 15% 4Stroke, Power Master 20/20, and Cool Power 30% heli in my .65, .72, .91, and 1.00 Saito. I found that the Cool Power 15% 4 stroke does great. It is cheaper than Power Master and 30% heli and is works as effectively. My next choice is the Power Master 20/20 but it is about $10 more per gallon than Cool Powewr 15%. Lastly, the 30% heli give you more nitro but I believe the extra boost is not needed and it is priced similar to Power Master. The bottom line is go with the Cool Power 15% 4stroke.

Sorry only one Saito 180 with standard muffler

figure the next one is the 220 glow as I would need to do a serious lot of flying to make back the fuel costs of buying the gasser

below 180 I mostly do electric

I recently bought a gasket set for an 80 and found that it did not include the cylinder base gasket. When I called Horizon, they said that the cylinder base gasket is no longer used just go metal to metal. I guess that's fine with me, but I wondered if omitting the gasket doesn't increase compression slightly and would that lead to more backfires? I recall some time ago a friend had a 65 which was very bad about backfiring and spitting the prop. He eventually put a .015 shim under the cylinder base and the engine became much better behaved at very little loss of power.

Any thoughts?
