Bob:

Does Jett provide mufflers, especially the Turbo-Jett mufflers, for the Super Tigre series of engines? If so, which engines? thx Jim

Hi Jim

thanks for writing.

Yes, the turbo-jett mufflers are available for all of the ST engines. What engine/application did you have in mind ?

Both the Jett-Stream and Turbo-Jett mufflers are available for just about any 2-cycle engine from .25 to 1.20, as well as the ST2300 and OS 1.60 (turbo-jett available for a few of the other big engines as well)

Bob

I'm using the Supertigre G40 for Q500 Sportquickie pylonracing.

I tried an Jett Supersport Muffler on my G40, which is normally provided with the SS40 Supersport Jett Engine. The Bolt Spacing fits the G40. Even if it seems, that the muffler has the new 38mm boltspacing.

I got 14800-15200 rpm with an 10x6 APC and much more in the air (Radar pistol 209 km/h = 160 mph). With the ST silentmuffler the engine turned the same prop with 13400.
An 10x7 was not easy to set up with the Supersportmuffler( 13200 rpm) but the topspeed raised to 219 km/h. The Fuel used was 20/80 castor mix (FAI fuel).
With the 10x6 and the Jett Supersportmuffler this engine is very competitive in the german Q500 Sport class.

I would like to know what's the difference between the normal Stream Muffler, which I have yet to try, and the Supersportmuffler?

I did not expect, that the G40 would turn the 10x6 so well with the Supersportmuffler.

Stoneweapon,

I am pleased to hear you had good results with the muffler.

As you found, the Jett bolt spacing is the same as the old ST S-40 and Como 40/50 engines - and most of the modern ST 40 size engines. It also matched the Webra .40. The only difference was the bolt size. The JETT muffler has 6-32 bolts. I belive ST and Webra had 3mm.

The SS muffler is a bit different than the standard Jett-Stream muffler, in terms of its tuned rpm range.

The standard 40-50 size Jett-Stream is tuned to operate best between 14,500 and 17,500 rpm (ground rpm). Props are selected accordingly to allow the engine to run in this range. It does have effective boost as low as 13,000 and as high as 18,500 rpm, but you would want to say within that main range for the best results.

The SS version of the muffler is tuned for higher rpm - mainly 16,000 to 19,000 rpm. Again, its broader effective range is down to about 14,500 and as high as 20,000 rpm, but you would want to select a prop that allows the engine to turn at least 16,000 rpm on the ground for optimum results.

What you saw with the G-40, 10x6 and the SS was a good performing engine, just barely staging up into the tuned range of the SS muffler. Once it staged, the muffler itself further helped get the engine up deeper into that tuned range, and the engine will settle in nicely once there at full throttle. In the air, the engine will unload a bit futher, taking the rpm closer to the 'sweet spot' of the tuned range. You likely found the needle somewhat easy to set, and the engine ran well in the air.

What you saw with the 10x7 is that the engine simply could not turn enough rpm to stage properly on the ground - so it never got past that 14000 K rpm hurdle. But in the air, no doubt the engine unloaded another 600-800 rpm, and then staged up on the pipe - and just got into the boost rpm range of the engine. (set up like an overly-short pipe). However, this prop and ground rpm would be considered too larger/too low rpm to really be effective, and would tend to be difficult to make run consistantly. You likely found the high speed needle difficult to set, and the engine may have even gotten hot on you.

Using the G-40 and SS muffler, if racing rules permit, use a 9x6, 9x7 prop, or try one of the APC Q-500 props 8.75x7.5 , 8.75x8W. I believe you will find these props will turn into the correct rpm range, and will perform very well in the air.

I hope this is helpful
Bob

Thank you bob, for your quick and detailed reply.

I know about the higher RPM range of the super-sport muffler. I was very impressed, that it worked so good on the "big" 10x6 APC.

If I find myself below 100sec, I am ready to think about an real racing engine.

Stone, sorry to have to Edit your post but this not a General Discussion area, please limit your remarks to the question you had above, Thankyou much.
