That doesn't suprise me. There is only one video of a full sized seawind flying that I could find. I have been looking for months for one. this video is of a seawind just flying by on youtube and that is it.

Norm:

I spoke with Dick on Thursday, and he's hopeful that if he can get the money together he's going to continue with the FAA cert. of the airplane. Lets all wish him good luck..

I've read a couple of posts here about switches and their location in the airplane and keeping them dry etc. Has anyone tried/considered the external Switch/Charge Jack mounting set Great Planes # GPMM1000? I'm planning on using it on mine.

Another fuel tank question.. Does the tank get epoxied it? (The instructions dont mention it)

finchase, I had the external charging on mine and it seemed to work good. I sprayed mine with wd 40 and wiped off the excess and blew out the water before every charge when I was in the field. The tank fits so tight that I never epoxied mine in.
Norm, do you have any vids of the full sized plane? I saw somewhere on the net where a guy was fighting with seawind manufacturers about installing carbon fiber tubes to strengthen the engine pod on the real one. His argument was that it would be stronger, lighter and less flexible thus safer. I think that GP should do that to thier model also. I hope great planes is reading this. If they would just suck it up and re-design this plane with a little more strength in mind, I am sure that thier sales would double on this aircraft because it is one of the prettiest planes on the market. Right now, people are just too afraid to buy it given all of the problems that this plane posesses.

Dick is a super guy and I have worked with him for about a decade doing articles on his aircraft. If anyone can pull this one out, Dick can. And,,,,,,most of the problems were not the result of aircraft problems, they were mostly pilot errors. Dick has over 2,000 hours in the Seawind and it is a good flying airplane but not for marginal pilots. Norm

Oh, so he is the one that I read about doing the mods on that aircraft? Very smart individual. Is he the one that put the turbine in it also? Yes, you are right about the marginal pilots for this plane. The GP model is the same way - NOT FOR BEGINNERS. Although a beginner could probably fly it, that beginner will have a heck of a time taking off and landing. GP could redesign this plane with that though in mind - more square inches of lift out of the wing, longer front end for easier balancing etc. I would not be as scale looking, or win any awards for scale but it would handle better. After all, it is only a model and I don't think that it was originally designed to win any scale contests anyway.

No, I only took 35 mm and dig pix for magazine repro. The engine mount on the full scale is virtually bullet proof. It has passed all tests including real hard landings without a problem. The early versions with 200 hp engine did take a long take off run and finesse on the take off attitude. It also had a canopy hinge problem which was taken care of and of course the 300 hp engine solved the take off problem. I understand that the new Great Planes foam Seawind is very good performer with none of the problems of the larger one. Norm

Yeah, I have been thinking about buying that mini seawind just for some kick around fun while on vacation. We have a 20' ranger bass boat and we fish alot. The bass boat is a very good platform to work out of when flying rc float planes. I cannot wait untill the lakes thaw and we can go out again. The only thing that I don't like about the foamy seawind is that is is really small ( I like larger planes ) but it performs very well.

Hi, After flying model seaplanes for over 40 years I have come to the conclusion that the most fun, day after day and lack of any serious problems is a medium size Cub 81 in are the ones I fly. Electeic is the best for obvious reasons but a good reliable 4-stroke is also quite good. The hardest one I ever flew was a small Lake built from plans in Model Builder. I had an OS 25 in it and it flew but it was a job getting off the water. Models equipped with floats are far easier to fly than flying boats in my opionion. Seaplane flying large or small is the most fun ever. Norm

check out new Super Cub with flaps 81in wingspan coming out soon at Hobby People. Saw it at AMA Expo last week and ordered one for floats naturally. also check out the 80 in Canadair water bomber coming out from KMP in a few weeks, I have also ordered this one. Two electrics for this one.

I have had a sig kavelier on floats, a couple of tower trainers on floats my Seawind and fly my friend's seamaster alot. Untill GP fixes the problems on the Seawind (which may be never), I have to get another float plane. I was thinking super cub because I have a OS 70 surpass now without a home but could never find the right one. The super cub would be perfect with this engine - not really powerful but pretty good for scale speeds and relaxing. I will keep an eye out for that plane by Hobby People - thank you! I am also considering a KMP Beaver ( have been thinking about that for a couple of years now ) but it is a bit out of my price range right now. I may just get a neptune also. It is always better to have several planes to float fly than just one in my opinion. My son has a Nextar that has a TTpro 46 on it and we will be installing floats for it this spring also.

Hangar 9 had a nice ARF Beaver on display at the AMA Convention last week. They said it wasn't available as yet. It looked like it had about an 80 in wing, very scale looking and I am sure it will be a lot cheaper than the KMP at almost 800 bucks for floats and plane. Hangar 9 also had some outstanding EDO floats, almost exact scale both floats and fittings and sturts to fit their 1/4 scale Cub. Now that would be a very nice combo. I have a 1/4 Super Cub on scale EDOS but it is very heavy at 25 pounds and I like electrics. Norm

hey greg, fyi, i just dusted off my wind after about a month hiatus from flying and the futaba 3102 micros for the elevator and rudder were seized up!!! took them apart and they were corroded like hell!!.....i do not know of any water proof servos to replace them so i decided to just go with the tower hobbies TS10 servos. they're much cheaper and work fine. the best mod to the plane was water proofing the flap and aileron servos with rubber material....there is a thread several pages back describing how to do this.......i have not had any problems with those servo's even with the wings dipping under the water as much as they do...good luck
