spose it goes to show that you cant tell if your getting what you pay for these days. like trinity cels in the car racing scene, they are far more expencive then say the equal quality nosram pack, one is nearly double the other. still my question is has any one found these cells to be dodgy, or just happen to skip all the middle men oin its way to my battery strap? i'll be pullin about 15amps in hover at the most ( with a whats up meter its pullin hard out of my hand at 15 amps ). the pack is rated at 33 amps according to the manufacturer, i should fall well under the limit.

Now I have no idea what 10C and 12C battery cycle life is today, but I'm betting it's many times those numbers. For the high cost of these newer high-dischage batteries, I'm not too excited about them becoming pretty paper weights in a couple months .

my two cents... I could be wrong . Someone have better information?

Maybe they're like a new car model. Wait till next years model comes out, so all the bugs will be fixed.

I'd like to relate my experience with Dymonds.... I've read with great interest about how well the Dymonds perform against the Thunder powers. I have a Gen2 TP 2100 that I've been using for a couple months on a Stryker without incident. I've been very happy with the performance and flight times on the TP.

Last week, I bought a Dymond 2100. First flight after a full charge: I got a little over 1/2 the flight time as compared to my TP. I can't go to full throttle without the ESC cutting out, whereas the TP can go full throttle at will. I figured the thing might need a cycle or two, so I charge it back up. Later that day, I go out for the second flight. This time, again, I get very poor flight time, but more importantly: the thing was HOT and very SWOLLEN!

I called Dymond tech support and their response was that I was pulling too much current. I ask why my TP works fine (and has for greater than 50 flights) but the Dymond doesn't (don't they claim the Dymond is better than the TP?). The response was, "our batteries are fine - it's your setup that's the problem. There's nothing we can do."

I've asked that Helmut (the owner, I believe) give me a call to discuss. I believe (hope) that I just have a bad battery. Hopefully Helmut will call and this can be resolved.

In the mean time, I wanted to let you all know of my situation. For now, buyer beware. I'll put up another post if I get any resolution from Dymond.

Bummer McBoone,

We only have a TP1320 to compare to the Dymond HD 1350 that are close size-wise. They seem to perform really closely to one-another. Hope they take care of business. Our Dymond 2100's really seem to be strong, provide thier spec current, and charge-recharge indicated they are working very well. We have not flown them to LVC, so I don't know exactly how many mAH they are discharging. They are still new, 4-5 cycles each, so I take it real easy until they are seasoned.

I don't know if it really necessary, but I go thru a "breakin period" on new Lipoly's. Charge at no more than 1/2C, rarely use more than 3/4 capacity, generally prop the planes to draw no more than 10C until they are well broken in. I don't know where I read it, but there was something that made me think it was the proper way to get the most from a Lipo...

sooner or later the top manufacturers will have to bring there lipo prices down to meet the growing quality of the no frills ones, i dare say in a year or 2 we will all be enjoying low low prices

Thanks Tman....I was reasonably gentle with the battery. I typically fly at 50% throttle on average. A few short bursts to full, and often below 50% (I like long runtimes). I definitely wasn't hard on the Dymond.

That being said, I spoke with Helmut yesterday, and he seemed to think there might be a bad cell. I am sending the battery back to him. We'll see what happens when he gets it.

The bummer of it all is that with return shipping costs, my "cheap" LiPo isn't as cheap anymore. I would have been better buying a TP at my LHS. I could be flying with two batteries instead of one right now. Oh well...
