well isnt that interesting???......today i had the mag 70 running and it was about the same as before but i noticed that when i applied a little pressure on the high speed needle, it ran great! so i'm thinking o-ring problems at that location. does anyone know if the high speed needle assembly in the 91 mag is the same as the one on the 70? if so, i can swap them out and see if this makes the engine more mangable. that would be an easy test. anyone? thanks

I know the NV bodies are interchangeable between like Magnum and OS.

I am currently flying 3 Magnum XL 46s...... One in a World models Mach II, One in a Extra 300s, and One in an Ultimate Bipe, and have had NO problems...... The Mach II has over 500 flights on it and the Engine still runs fine......
A friend of mine gave me a Magnum XL 46 that he said he could not get to run right... After I ran the engine I found that you have to adjust the slow and high speed needle valves together in order to get this particular engine to run right..... Now it is in my Ultimate Bipe with 20 or 30 flights..... I think there is allways a possibility of getting a bad engine but I think most people expect an engine to run perfecly out of the box with no adjustments............ I am no expert on engines but if I can get my 3 Magnums to run without any problems than I would have to say that the Magnum XL 46 is a good buy for the money.................

You would be very happy with a Magnum XL91 RFS engine in your Four Star 60

i have one of these 91 magnum fs on a 50 scale pattern plane and it performs very nicely. plenty of power. i think it would handle the 4 star as well. i've had no problems with my 91. the break in went smoothly and the thing just runs great! my 70 on the other hand, right from the get go, seemed to be a little sick to me. i'll mess with it a bit more and may end up sending it back. i also have a mag 52 fs in my magic which runs very strong. it's just that darn 70 thats giving me a headache.

The really good thing about the Magnum .91 four-stroke engine, or any Magnum engine for that matter, is the excellent warranty service they present, should you need it.

I am very satisfied with my Magnum engines, having owned, operated and flown them for nearly a decade now, IIRC.

They take a little while longer to break-in, on the average, but it is nothing really protracted or prolonged. Just be prepared to run them on the bench, or in your model elevated up on a card or picnic table for four or five tanks of fuel, or less. Also use fuel with at least some castor oil in it, even if you have to add four ounces yourself. After the engine settles in a bit, you will have an engine that runs and handles very similarly to the original OS version from which it was cloned.

I would like to find a dealer with valves for a .90 or 1.20 engine. I need 8 valves to complete a model 4 cylinder Holt 75 Cat engine. Thanks Capt,n

FWIW
It's always a good idea when rebuilding a ringed engine to replace the ring and sleeve as a set. Pistons are replaced as needed.
