Tower does not sell parts but they want in on the engines. Go figure

....I don't think that is right myself.

I would say, if you want to be a "dealer"....sell the parts as well. Sales and service go together.

FBD.

I agree totaly....I have a Magnum 91 FS which I have been running in my Hog Bipe for two years....runs wonderfully, starts easily and I haven't had the need to change the needle valve for many months.

Yesterday it started vibrating very badly in the air. It shook so bad the right wing strut screws came loose and before Icould it on the ground the top right wing came loose from the strut and began to flap.
Anyway managed to get on the runway in one piece......and now I/m wondering where I can send the engine for repair..I know Hobby People but can't find any info from the web site as to where to send...

I really would like to repair the engine it has given me such good service.

Can anyone help? Thanks

hi:
My 52XLS runs erratic with a 11x5 MA(13300rpms)but runs fine with a 12x6apc(10300rpms),is this ok?
what is the best prop for this plane?

I'm using powermaster 10%
thanks

Your XLS .52A will run more smoothly with a higher load on it. The 12x6 reading of 10,300 is pretty solid performance; you might also find an 11x7 to be to your liking.

Who else has parts for the magnum line besides hobby people?

You can order Magnum engine parts through any hobby dealer with a Global Hobby reseller account. As long as I provide my local Hobbytown USA with the mfr part numbers, they always come through with the right part no matter how clueless they are with regard to my request.

The current line of Magnum engines is made by Sanye of China. They also make ASP & SC engines. All these four brands are interchangeable, parts wise, as long as you stay in the same generation.

Sanye also makes the Evolution glow engines for Horizon and many parts of the Evolution engines are interchangeable with the Magnums.

The is is no "ASP" distributor in the USA because Hobby People and Horizon hold the lid on it.

But people in the USA can buy ASP parts from just engines in Great Britain and from other sources in NZ, AU, & China.

I don't think that's what is really going on here. I think Tower Hobbies carries engine brands like Magnum and Thunder Tiger to meet demands from their customers. Magnum and Thunder Tiger are both represented of "value class" four strokes, and the TT Pro .40 2-stroke is an exclusive engine for a particular level of AMA sanctioned pylon racing. Tower's customers would be buying Magnum and TT engines regardless of whether or not Tower was supplying them.

They provide a good retail outlet for smaller distributors like ACE or Global, and it gives them a chance to sell a Great Planes or Hobbico ARF along with that Magnum or Thunder Tiger engine. If Tower didn't carry them, more of those engines would be going into Model Tech, Sportsman Aviation, or Thunder Tiger/ACE ARFs instead of Great Planes airframes.

The Hobbico juggernaut has plenty invested in supporting O.S. Max, Super Tigre, Tower Hobbies, and GMS engines. They let Magnum's and Thunder Tiger's distributors support their own products.

Tower would rather sell their own lines of engines as they're certainly more profitable for Hobbico as a whole. Selling a less profitable engine is better than not selling an engine at all, and is good for Tower's long-term financial health.

I'm a bit surprised that Horizon has shrunk their own engine lines to where they are pretty much distributing Evo and Saito almost exclusively now. The Webra and MDS product lines allowed them to throw a much larger net than they have currently. Then again, it seems they're doing a good job at building the Evolution brand by concentrating on it as much as they have. Maybe less is more.

You mean they really did change the Magnum .15? I thought the blue head was just a reflection on the old engine's picture. Interesting!
