Tried out the Kitty . My vintage 15. Broke it in on my custom blend 9.8% nitro with lots of castor then today I thought about it and went ahead and filled the tank with my favorite 1/2A blend 20% nitro 21% castor. It responded nicely. Gave me 600 more rpms , and the needle setting wasn't so sensitive. I have yet to try an 8X4 prop to see if it likes using torque to make it's thrust instead of rpms. One thing, I did switch to a slightly colder plug (an OS #8) , might try an even colder one to see if it has an effect. The carb seems to have a very small barrel hole, so I wonder it it is limiting it on the high end. I will compare it to my Fox 15 tomorrow. I really think this engine was aimed at the /2A crowd so that is why it likes the high nitro.

Using 1/2A fuel is a thought. All of my other .15's - Fox, Enyas, OS's - have always run fine on 15% but it can't hurt to try some Sig 25% Champion in the Magnum. Going to an OS #8 is probably a good idea, too. If it dries up enough today I'll give that combo a try.

I have a question for the Magnum experts here. I have a Magnum 91 two stroke engine that needs some parts. Global Hobby lists parts for both the original version and a "new" version.

How do I know if I have the original version or the "new" version?

Thanks in advance!

I believe the "new" version is the XLS which has a squarish head. The older version should have a perfectly round head.

Nice plane.

I have a Sow Poke. I had a Magnum 61 on it for a couple years. It has a OS 52 on it now. The mounting bolt pattern was the same.

That's the ARF. Internally they are constructed a little different than the kit. The external shape is pretty much the same except the cockpit sides

I have a Magnum XL .40 in my Avistar. The engine has good power and never deadsticks. I have many, many flights on it. No problems at all.
