Hi, thank you for your suggestion. The engine is well run in, using the correct techniques (i.e.not 4 stroking , stopping let it cool, running at full speed and so on) The engine has had in excess of 8 litres of fuel through it(over 2 of your gallons) so it must be well and truly run in. The engine was actually more reliable while it was being run in, the more use it had the more unreliable it became.

I have sent the engine to Asmund in Norway which is about as far from NZ as you can get, but he reckons he has never had a failure in getting an engine to run correctly yet. I engine to me in it previous condition was just junk so I have my fingers crossed he is successful.

Thank you again for your suggestions.

Cheers

David

I have had a small overhaul of the engine now and it runs great on the ground. It tachs 14200 rpm on MAS 9-8, which is about as good as it gets on this one. This is the old series with round sylinder housing, not the newer more powerful XLS series with the square shape. Testflying will follow as soon as the weather allows. I will try to post a video of it running as soon as I get around to do it ( I need some help from a friend because I am completely disabled when it comes to posting pictures and videos)

I`m sorry, I don`t quite understand what you mean. This is about a faulty SC (magnum) 46 XL engine that david sent me all the way from New Zealand to have a closer look at.
What are you tired of? Magnum or the AX 35??

Actually, there's a thread about the newest .35AX where all other brands (except saito and maybe thunder tiger) are just turned into crap. Maybe you could share your experience with your sc/sanye/magnum .36 there ?

Oh, now I see My XLS 36 is so heavily modified now that it would be unfair to compare it against the others I have posted all about it in the past and besides, if I go into an OS thread and praise a Magnum then I will have all the OS fanatics all over me again. They have already stereotyped me as an OS hater from before, even though I actually love my OS 91 FX too, he he

I have gotten my Magnum XLS 36 to surpass my old Magnum XL 53 on many props, and it is still running on its stock muffler

VERY VERY happy with my little monster 36 engine

Have you not ran it yet? Go ahead and fire that thing up, you will be pleased once you have it dialed in

Hi
Here is a vid of the "problem-engine". As far a I can see, there is no issues with this engine. It's not powerhouse, but it runs fine. It runs on a local brand 15/15 synth oil mix.

You guys are engine geniuses. The engine would start and run like similar to the video but at transitions would just stop. It seems to rev higher as well.

You have proved that a model glow engine will run if it does not air leaks.

Thank you very much for your help, I really appreciate it.

Everyone here thinks it is quite funny that the engine went all the way to Norway!!!!!

Thank you again.

Cheers

David

I have watched the video several times. You guys must be good flyers to avoid the trees!!!! We fly in a much more open area and the person who taught me to fly and whom I fly with frequently now, has an unhealthy attraction for the few trees scattered around the paddocks (you may call them fields) adjoining the flying site.

Have you read the email sent to you directly? I need that information as my computer crashed after a virus attack and some emails have been lost.

Cheers

David
