Hey Guys, here are a few pics of the mod to install CJM retracts in the OV-10. There is still a lot of work left, when finished it will have the A nose, flatter bottom in the forward section of the Ctr. Pod, gear doors for nose and mains, scale details in the cockpit and canopy. I started as I said in an early post that I had taken out all formers forward of the wing saddle in the Pod and in the wing saddle area of the wing, when complete modified formers and stringers will be put back in place. The booms will be re-skinned with 1/16 balsa and the coners rounded a little more then glassed with 1/2 oz. FG cloth and finishing epoxy. Enjoy...Don

LOW SHOW......so are you planning on "notching" your wing to allow the OS 1.20 to fit... Nice engine BTW!!!!! what prop is it going to swing?? Like the mods keep them coming!!!

I don't think I will need to, the head is below the curve of the bottom of the leading edge, the engines are Thunder Tiger Pro. 1.20s, I made a header that will send the exhuast back and then down between the motor mounts into a mousse can muff.. I'll post pics of it after I finish all the cuts on the firewall. I think the props are Graupner 15X8 3 Blades. Thanks...Don

A little more progress, these pics show the A Nose uncut, as well as the mods to the canopy and the nose gear mounts. If you leave the canopy long on the sides at first and trim the front down to around an 1/2 in. and triming NONE at the point where the front wraps around to the side. I hope you get what I'm trying to describe here. More to come...Don

If you want to Custom Paint yours ask for an all white Unpainted one.. It comes Primed not painted... THat is what I ordered and am glad I did...you still get all the decals etc...Just not painted

You guys that have yours. Are you happy with the quality of the airframe? Overall? It's a fair amount of money to put down. Just want to hear what others are saying before I go ahead.

I am happy with the quality I rec'd...every and I mean Every ARF will have some vices....But for the size of this ..It is good...
It has Airfoiled shaped vertical and horizontal stabs... lots of cool fiberglass and plastic details...Instructions are typical CHINA pictures with poor english instructions but all you really need are some pics..
LOW SHOW is going all the way with his version... Others build them stock.. I am going middle of the road with modifications when I get to mine... I am also debating GAS vs Glow...
Overall I like it and it IS VERY IMPRESSIVE IN SIZE!!!!!!!!!!

Big, I saw one of Rich's built from his plans today and it looked really big with an 80 in. w.s., the 96 in. from KMP is massive, I would use either 1.00 to 1.20 2S or 1.20 4S. if you want to keep everthing inside the Cowl. My 2 Cents.....Don

Thanks guys for your help. I'm looking forward to getting another project started for this summer. My quess is that I don't have to look much further. Where do you guys stand on the retracts for this plane? Pretty funky setup.

I went with Bruce's units from CJM, they are heavy duty and couldn't wait for the others coming down the line, Lenny did a real nice set of struts for the 80 in. ws. and I under stand he is working on a larger set for the KMP, look back at the post on page one they are SHINDIN RETRACTS, Darrel is supposed to be again working on a set again the 80 in. at Seirra Precision Products that are outstanding but has been hard to get anything out of them in the past. I'm keeping all of the templates that I used to put CJMs in my Bronco if you were to go with them and the process would be simple to do now that all of the hard work has been done. Thanks.... Hey Guys, Could any of you tell me if the plane/wings are sheeted, as I would rather glass it.

Also would evo 26s be to much for it, I know that BME make a ST.90 gas converson also. which would be the best choice.

Yes they are sheeted but with a few lighting holes cut out, the fuse is solid but the booms, wing, stab, Vert. stabs and rudders all have been lightened, I'm going to sheet over the booms with 1/32 or 1/16 balsa to cover those holes and will just make balsa plugs to fill the holes on all of the other areas. It is my opinon that the airframe would be just fine with out any lighting holes at all, if you were to weigh all of the balsa plugs taken out the weight saves would bre nominal, now if it were to be lite ply it would make a big difference, the balsa is really lite compared to ply....Don

I have not started mine yet but also debating engines. I just looked at the Evo 26 and ST 90 conversion at a hobby shop, and they look like a great fit and appear to be a good power match (would also like some experienced input) but they get pricy when you add the muffler etc. Has anyone checked the fit of the First Place 1.3 ?? I like the looks of this engine, seems to fit but the carb would stick out a bit !!
I really would like to stay with Gas. Keep the input going - Thanks

The supertiger conversion is by BME. They have a 50 and 90 size available. The 90 is $369 w/factory muffler, the type that pivots on engine head exhaust flange-pipe. This includes ignition and pumper type gas carb.
I think you would have to use specialty muffler for proper in-cowl clearance which will add to the cost. The cost then is about the same as the EVO26. The 90 is much smaller in size to the EVO26 and not as much power. Since cost is about the same the EVO26 gets my attention.

Hi guys:

Great job on the models!! Its good to see most of them getting to the field this Spring. For those looking for optional engines that fit into the cow and can spin large scale props... you should look into the RCV "SP" series of gear reduced engines. They are all four stroke and can spin serious props. Check them out at www.rcvengines.com
