A hobby/sport only costs as much as you'd like to invest in it. For R/C planes you can get a $50.00 park flyer or dump $25,000.00 into a multi-engined jet. With Golf, you can play at Putt-Putt or Pebble Beach depending on how deep your pockets are.
If you ever want to get into a money making business, anything recreational can be a huge profit maker. Look at your R/C whatever and really think about what it costs to make it. I've bought some in the $100.00 plus range and figured that they only had maybe $20.00 into it. Lexan car bodies are only about $5.00 to make and look what they're going for!
They're still selling huge motorhomes like crazy even with gas prices skyrocketing.

Of course that's probably nothing compared to a Predator RQ-1 Drone, which is probably more than $4.5M each, or the big brother Global Hawk at $15M. I guess there is something to say for "Mini & Micro RCs."

Then theres road racing, like lance armstrong style (dont flame me for that, I dont kno) I saw a couple of bikes for 5000.

Yeah, cycling is definately my most expensive hobby. Not just on road racing either, ANY racing. It would be REAL easy to spend 5000+ on a top of the line racer.

$500 crankset
$500 wheelset
$1000-2000 component group
$1500-3000 frame
$100 seatpost
$150-200 handlebars
$100-150 seat
$100 tubular tire set
$100 headset
$100+ other accs

Nothing is expensive if you can sell it tomorrow for a profit. Instead of thinking it as "how expensive", try to evaluate if it "worths" the price. Does the price you paid for those things satisfy your needs? One leads to another - LIFE is also expensive. One life to live, limited time! What price would you pay (or sell) for that time?

Women are BY FAR the most expensive hobby...

No question about it.

Before marriage, I treat those spending as investment which is an asset.
After marriage, she was repositioned into Liab... (forgot how to spell that word)...
No question about it.

Lets see
I paid $28k for my computer. I got it so I could design race cars and other custom rides.
I have about $8k in my team cobra carpet racer. I have about $4k into my Monster GT. Plus my other R/C stuff. I have a '97 Chevy Lumina LMS stock car with a $45k engine in it. I will just say Racing is the most expensive hobby.

i am pretty much broke now, but before i got into r/c (when i was even more broke) i had the most in expensive hobby, and it was so fun. THROWIN STUFF AT PEOPLE. it may sound imature to u, and it prolly is, but it is so damn fun. i mean, during math class, when im bored cause i dont understand anything the teacher is saying, me and my friends will throw stuff at random people. its so funny to see the look on someones face when they notice a small paperclip or ball of paper has hit them. they just look so dumb, and its funny when they scan the room lookin for the dude who threw it. the best part is, u can master ur skills, like become a better thrower or be good at keepin a straight face. my goal for this year is to throw a paper ball or pen a the teacher when she is lookin at the chalkboard and get away with it, i know i can hit her, i just dont know if i can keep keep from laughing afterwards.

Off road racing is the most expensive hobby. OK 2 million for a top of the line truck fuel abput a grand a weekend then tires 500 for two. then parts you need at least one full back up truck then parts and 3 motors 3 trannies and so on. Dont forget the hauler about another 2 grand then the crew about a million for them then gas for the hauler and so on.

You can make just about any hobby expensive. It's all in how well you can contain yourself. With well over 100 r/c cars, it's my most expensive hobby. Over the past 15 years, I've spent in excess of $100K on this hobby alone.

Tropical fish can get expensive too. If you've ever watched a tank of $200-EACH Discus (imported directly from Singapore) go belly up one night because of a PH problem, you know what I mean.

Cycling, I've spent over $3000 on my road bike this summer and am looking at another $4000 for a Specialized Epic mountain bike this spring.

You can even drop a pile running! $300 shoes, $500 for summer gear, $500 for winter gear, race fees, hotels, etc.

Having recently been introduced to triathlons, there goes another $600 for a wetsuit.

Then there's the snowmobile, motorcycle.......

(can you tell I'm not married?)

ohh expensive fish going belly up
Fun stuff

Well I have fish and it's 250 for a tank
A nice filter is 100 +
Fish around 100 - 1000 depending on what ones you get...
Testing gear about 50
Nice Python Cleaning system 50-100 bucks depending on how far your tank is from a sink (I got mine for 20)
food about 10 bucks a month so at the most you are spending around:
16k
A LOT for some fish

I was introduced to triathlons the easy way--a female triathlete. Then there was the XC skier... I purchased language tapes in addition to a full line of racing and training equipment. In the long run, the RCs were probably cheaper.

I went to wal-mart the other day at gold fish 10 cents a fish bowl with food rocks and a scuba guy 19.95. So there you go 25 bucks for a set of fish. You could be in a new hobby without even knowing it.
