The washout base is pretty standard in its assembly, with the exception of the use of tiny c-clips to retain the pivot pins for the washou arms. You will need a very fine tipped set of snap-ring pliers to install these, or a suitable block of material with the correct clearance hole for the pins. You can set the clips on the block and tap the pins through the clips without too much difficulty. An extra clip is provided just in case the clip flies off to oblivion when you are installing it.
I found it unusual that the mixer base has no bronze bushings, just the plastic surface rides directly on the main shaft.
The swashplate assembles normally and includes an adjustment feature for the main bearing to eliminate any slop that may develop.

Installing the head...... - 11/11/2002 9:31:36 AM

The next step after attaching the swashplate and mixer base is to mount the head.
The head slips on the mainshaft and is retained by a dowel pin that is slid into the head block and through the mainshaft.
Unfortunatly on my kit the dowel pin would not install all the way through. Inspection of the issue reveals that the hole for the pin in the head block is drilled off center. There is no way around this but to obtain a replacement head block.
I called Miniature the next day and they agreed to send me another head block right away, but that I had to return the bad one for their inspection. Fair enough. This build is on hold until I get the new part.
In the pic below you can see the dowel pin (just below the flybar pivot) is protruding from the head block.

Well the muffler is mounted, it is time to try on the canopy.

Check out this beautiful paint work by CanopyFX. The fellows' name there is Joe and he was kind enough to donate this canopy for the review. His work comes highly recommended and I can see why. The paint is top-notch with clear coat over all the airbrushing and a very nice shine. This is gonna be a hit at the field.
You can check out canopyFX at www.canopyfx.com , or email them at customheli@canopyfx.com

Joe all ways does great work

I got the replacement head block from Miniature, and it assembled and installed on the main shaft as it should.
The next step is to set-up the pushrods from the swashplate to the head, no drama here. As with any heli, careful setup of pushrod lengths and position is important, the manual gives lengths of all the pushrods . I had to slightly resize all the balls to get a good fit.
Here is a shot of the assembled head in place.

The radio packaging is well-done with the option of two locations for the battery/rcvr mounting pad, one forward of the other to allow for CG adjustment if needed. I chose the rearward position as recommended by the manual according to my battery/muffler choice.
A very nice touch is the provision of a spot on the forward frames on each side for mounting the gyro control box and governor control box. These can be mounted with Velcro through included slots or foam tape. This really helps to make for a clean and easily inspected wiring setup. A nice switch mount is positioned to line up with a slot in the canopy for ease of operation.

With a GY-601 and GV-1 governor on board each with its own display, as well as a CCPM setup to program , radio setup can easily take a day or two.
Suggested pitch curves are given in the manual for the various flight modes (idle-ups).
At this point the Heli is pretty well built and, Seeing a break in the monsoon season, I have been able to sneak out today for a test flight. It was a short session, But I was able to do some hovering and a little forward flight.
My previous flying experience has been with a Century Falcon (46/50 size) that has treated me very well. I decided to step up to the bigger Fury based on my discussions with several experienced pilots in my area about the flying qualities of the bigger helis.
I was not disappointed, I am no expert pilot but the Fury made me look better. The wind was considerable today but I found the heli very solid in hover and easy to keep it where I wanted it to be.
A short forward flight session was very encouraging as I tried a roll and found it very straight and axial, easier to do well than with the smaller helis.
Next weekend may be better for weather and I will do some more flying then to determine other flying characteristics.
