I was given the following advise which I shall pass on. I had a plane that had been flown exclusively off floats for two years and never dunked. On the advice of a friend I pulled the receiver deck and found it had a coating of corrosion all over it. I bought some spray cleaner from a marine supply house This is used for cleaning and protecting radios and radar from corrosion. I loaned the can out and didn't get it back so I don't recall the name but this product is in a spray can and dissolved the corrosion instantly. It drys very fast and will not harm your gear. This is now part of my preventative maintenance.

ACF 50... We use it on our fullsize seaplanes which live in saltwater. It is expensive, but nothing is better http://www.learchem.com/Aviation.htm I have used it on recievers and servos which have been in saltwater(don't ask) and salvaged them.Great stuff

That's the stuff I was talking about, lasts forever if you can just remember who you loaned it to.

That sounds like a product I have used called Corrosion-X.

It prevents nasty mung from attacking your circuit boards, and is a pretty good penetrating lubricant, too. I wonder if it would be good as an after-run oil......

I got a PM from someone about this Beaver and am working on one now. Does any one know its all up weight? I am thinking about using a gas engine instead of my OS 3500. Thinking about a BME 50. Overkill or good ballast for a short nose moment?

When I called Dennis to ask about this kit he said the proto type came in at 16 lbs without floats and 21 lbs with floats. He said that you need at least the Moki 180 if you intend to fly off water.

I would like to clarify two items on these posts.

#1--- In post #2 by scale_only_4_me. In the picture of the Ikon Northwest Beaver the model is mounted on Seacommander fiberglass scale Beaver floats, not the Ikon built up floats. The model was built by a customer from Montana who did a beautiful job on this model. He also sent me the same photos.

#2 --- In post #24 by n64uw, The message states that Commander Floats is another business of Murray Marley, of Coastline R/C. Not so. Commander R/C Models builds the fiberglass fuselages, floats and other glass components of Murray's Beaver kit but it is not one of Murray's businesses. Murray is a good friend of ours and he puts a lot of care and attention into his kit. It is a beautiful and exact scale model.
Commander R/C Models is owned and operated by Gord Whitney and Linda Kolke.

Gord, your floats are great and I wish I had one of Murrays beavers...one beautiful kit. Here's a picture of a set of sea commander 46" floats i'm working on right now. Great product.

I just ordered a fiberglass cowl from Unionville Hobbies and they gave me a web site for Beaver documentation. It's dhc-2.com. Hundreds of pictures! I guess this guy is trying to document every Beaver ever built. I found the one I flew in this last June in Fairbanks, Alaska. Great site.

Dont,t know the exact weight but seen one fly with floats a little over a week ago that was powered by a Saito 100, they said it weighed about 10lb.

That weight doesn't sound right. Unionville say's 30+ pounds on wheels and 40+ with floats.
Thanks,
Wes

Wes, My mistake sorry, that weight was for the 8' Beaver and not the 1/4 scale.

No problem. I do appreciate your effort. Friend of mine has a 14 pounder 8' with a Satio 180 on it.
Thanks,
Wes
