Check out this price for a new ZDZ-80 single cylinder engine, $430. Here is the web site:
http://www.zdz-motor.de/html/zdz80rvus.html The price is shown in the Euro so you will have to use a currency converter. I bought the ZDZ-80 last year and received it in one week from Germany. It takes longer than that for me to receive a package from the west coast. If we can save $200 on this and other ZDZ engines, I wager we can also save on other brand engines as well. Ordering from Germany is no harder than ordering from here in the states. Just go on line and use a major credit card. I thought everyone would like to know this. James Goss

... ZDZ 40RV @ 396.69 EUR = $353.57. Certainly less than the RCS price of $410.

One thing to be remember: warranty service. From the RCS site:

quote:

* Important Notice: Warranty Service is provided by ZDZ dealers/distributors. The labor portion and time spent is provided "free" by RC Showcase. Of course we do get replacement parts from ZDZ Modelmotor but we have to pay for the shipping. Because of this we will only provide complete, no charge, warranty repairs on ZDZ or RCS engines that we have sold. If you have an engine purchased elsewhere that needs service we will repair it, but charge a modest fee for the labor time spent.

I'm in the process of picking an engine for my 1/4 scale Cap 232 and the small ZDZ motor is probably going to get the nod. Saving $60 on the engine is meaningless if I have to pay it back later in increased service costs. Also, do these gassers come from Amelung with the ignition programmed for the lower Euro RPM limit or the higher US one?

3 of us in our club purchased engs from amulung in Germany. The service was great and the prices even better. We got an additonal 8% off of the total purchase price because we bought all 3 at the same time. We also saved on the shipping costs.
Because we live in Canada(and our poor canadian dollar) Germany was the only country that made it feasible to buy from.
We had problems with amulungs ign. modules. All 3 were sent back. They were replaced with falcon units and have been trouble free ever since. As far as turnaround time goes for me if there is any problems, it would be about the same cost and time frame.
Since sept 11 it seems to take longer to get parts from the states now.
The engs shipped to the states and canada do not have rev limiters as far as i know. I've buzzed my 60 to 8500 and it was still climbing when i chickened out and pulled back the throttle!!!
These engs are a great buy!! Where else can you get this kinda monster torque for the price. Both RCS and Amulung are great companys to deal with. In my case, it came down to price alone that made the decision. I saved over $300 canadian by going with Amulung.
Check them both out and decide for yourself what is most important to you.

Is RCS the only distributor in the USA?

Yes RCS is the North American Distributor for ZDZ and Moki-Modell engines (sold as RCS motors). There are no rev limits in Europe. And certainly no rev limiters on ZDZ motors that effect their ability to turn any practical prop. The little RCS 1.40 did have a rev limiter built into the ignitions, but RCS (Moki) motors are not ZDZ motors. RCS handles the warranty and service work for the ZDZ and RCS motors they sell. They are very responsive.

Not a large diffrence but the 80 is cheaper at TopModel. Here is the url but it is very long.

I tried ordering one twice from Top Model and both times they refused to sell in the US. I also tried amulung and they are out until sometime in February. RCS is out until some time in March.
