No problem, I'm gonna get started on the fuse tonight so I'll post some more pics after that.

5 of them are on their way to PAHRUMP NEVADA, (Where's PAHRUMP NV.?) Even some of our BEGINNERS are buying them for future flying. But NONE to my house, I need to pay for the trailer I bought to haul planes... TIMING,TIMING. It's all stupid timing....GEEZ, one of them would look nice in my NEW trailer. (hint hint) the wife does read these once in a while, and CHRISTMAS is coming. Maybe I can squeeze out enough to get a 24%.. At least that way I wouldn't have to put out for an engine, and better servos. I have a MVVS 150 that would fly the 24% beautifully.

EVERYONE enjoy them , I bet the regular prices don't last for long.

The ones coming here have been shipped and I'm real anxious to get a look at them.

I can't afford one cause I just bought a Funtana, which I have to finnish paying off first. But hey, I'd rather get the Funtana than the Extra. And still, $349 isn't bad either.

All of you guys with the CA Models 27% extra - what did your cowl look like? Mine leave a lot to be desired because it looks deformed or something in the front.

I guess you can't complain with the price though...

I have considered sending the cowl to Stan's Fibertech to have another made. There's nothing wrong with the one I have but I'm not a fan of the gel coated fiberglass because it cracks more easily. Stan would make it without the gel coat. I'll decide later once I get started...

If you look at my avatar you'll see the cowl wasn't paint on the DP Extra because I had planned to have Stan make me another. Unfortunatly I lost that plane on the 5th flight so Stan never got the cowl. It was gel coated and after 4 flights it was cracked up so bad it looked as if it had 300 flights on it.

I'm getting ready to get started on the fuse.

Todd,
Yes, the cowl is really thin... I am running a couple 'formers'
in the bottom to hold the shape. With it being sooooo thin
heat will bother it and cause it to contine to change
shape..

What does Stan's charge to make a cowl from an existing one? I have an ABS cowl that I sure would like to have a glass one made from. TIA

Thanks for the quick response. I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't "love" the glass parts.

Overall for the price, I am pretty happy though.

ChuckAuger, it depends on the size of the cowl, etc. When I called about the DP Extra cowl I think he quoted me a price around $50. That's because he didn't have a mold and would need to make one from the existing cowl. I'm sure the same would be for this bird.

Here is where I sit on the fuselage after only a couple hours of work...

Hey David,

I started putting mine together last night. This morning after a couple of hours of work, I'm just about where you are. It goes together pretty quick.

There appears to be a small error in the manual that I downloaded. It says "The sticks at the bottom must go from 10mm (4 inches) beyond the front edge down to about 5mm (2 inches) beyond the F9". My metrics aren't very good, but 10mm does not equal 4 inches (does it?).

10 mm is just barely over 3/8 of an inch.

I've been bit as well. I have a 27% and a 24% coming in the next couple of days! I'm going to put a MVVS 1.6 in the 24%.
I need to decide what engine I'm going to use for the 27%. Maybe a ZDZ 50 or a BME 50, or Taurus 52? What's your guys vote?

So many planes to build!! Arrg.

I'm using medium and thin CA on the fuse. They suggest tacking the formers in place with "CA of low viscosity" (I'm using thin CA) and then "review all the unions with CA of average viscosity" (medium CA?).

The firewall comes in two 1/8" pieces that you epoxy together. Also epoxy two 1/8" pieces together for the landing and tail gear.

I've never used foam wings. Can someone suggest what to use to glue the leading edge?

As for what engine I'm going to use...I've heard nothing but great things about the Taurus, but I already have a BME 50 just waiting for a plane.

Thanks.

Ed

I just ordered one of the 27% Thursday also. It will be here sometime in December. Keep us posted on the weight outcome of your project.

On all foam capping I've always used 5 minute epoxy if I want to continue working or Sig Bond if I am going to let it set overnight. Iether one works fine for all leading and trailing edges and end caps. If you use epoxy, sanding is best done right after is solidifies but before it gets brittle, while it is still somewhat soft.
Hope this helps

Hey Tiger, how did you find the MVVS 1.6? Is it the gas one?
As I hear that it is not the best for a 24% plane, although I wouldn't know.

ed42d- I use Probond Wood glue for capping this kind of wing. Works very well and sands easy.

robert- Love them. Yes gas! I have one in a 24% Genesis Cap232 (See avitar). It weighs 11.5 pounds dry. Pulls it very well. Can hover as well, but not quite enough power for 3D. Although it's not any where near broken in yet. With a tuned pipe, I'm sure it would do most anything. Turns an 16x10 at 8300 RPM!

Has anyone thought about filling the cut outs in with balsa and glassing the whole thing? Then you could put a custom paint job on it..

Well after a few hours last night I managed to get quite a bit built. I've never built an airplane that had foam pieces so I'm not sure what's the best glue to use. I'd planned to go to the LHS today and get some so I can finish the fuse.

Here is a link to a thread I started on my own site complete with pictures. I'd post them here too but Marc doesn't allow HTML and that would just mean more work so instead I'll just post the link:

http://www.****/forums/showthread.php?threadid=3614

I used rubber bands to hold the fuse formers together then used medium CA in most places. I did epoxy some tri-stock in the front two formers just for added strength. The thing goes together super easy so far...

Here is where I stopped off.
