Hey Noz, Your heli may be spinning because the switch on the gyro is set to normal and not reverse.

For clockwise rotating rotor heads the gyro should be set to REV ( reverse ) For counter clockwise
rotorheads the gyro should be set to normal.

The Walkera rotates clockwise and your switch should be set to REV, or towards the back of the gyro.

Hi everyone, I can get my dragonfly 36 off the ground now worries but can't stop the tail spin. any suggestions?. gyro is set to reverse.

take off the gyro and see what happens..
does the tail servo work properly?

ok here's the pinnons... http://www.grandrc.com/inc/sdetail/4213.....

With the stock motor, my 36 will just pop off the ground a few times so I ordered the Align 420LF, ESC and pinions through GrandRC. I still couldn't navigate to the pinions, so I used the link you gave me and loaded up my shopping cart from there. I also sent them an email tellling them what a nightmare their site is to navigate. Even if you choose the menu "All Product" then "motors", the 420LF isn't listed. I'm sure they do a great business, but they're still losing a ton of sales.

dragonfly36 -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/30/2005 12:12:54 PM)

can someone provide me with a link to
new brushless motor
new brushless ESC
new servos
please i'd appreciate it.

Hey GTX

good job on ordering the align set up.I have mine still havent set it into soft start mode when you get yours let me know if you do it.Any way I have a new problem.MY brushless motor works but the main blades are not spinning only the rear blades it seems that something isnt connected,if i spin the main blades manualy the main cog doesnt turn but the main shaft through the center is,something is wrong can any one help.what connects the main cog to the shaft for the main blades.I am very frustrated now.

cheers anyone

Tiger27 -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/30/2005 1:50:47 PM)

Borisboy have you tried tightening the hex screw under the main gear

borisboy -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/30/2005 2:37:44 PM)

Hi tiger

nice one that cured it, now i have found out that my gyro is the cause of my sticky rear tail,patched the new tail servo straight in to controller and no stickyness but now i have no gyro anyone else had this problem.Also cant programme my align 25a esc.Tried everything i have read on here.as asoon as the left stick gets to 50% it fires up quite quick it doesnt spool up niceley any help me on that.

cheers

inline2542 -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/30/2005 11:17:45 PM)

In order to program my align 25a I had to turn on my transmitter with throttle on low then plug in the batt, then as soon as it starts with the initial tones put the throttle to full, this will enter it into setup mode. Then just follow the instuctions. Hope this helps. I had the same prob but eventually figured it out. But I have set mine to brake off, mid timing, 70% batt, and heli mode but mine still doesn't spool up slowly. It gets to a little under mid throttle and starts hard and fast, so hard it spins it around about 90 degrees. Seems like it might eventually strip a gear. Is this normal for the align 420lf. When I get it off the ground and give it a little more throttle the tail starts to wag. I have experimented with the sensitivity and it doesn't seem to help.

although i cant control the pitch on the blades.. theres a problem. (servos etc work fine)

nbrcairpl -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/31/2005 3:37:48 AM)

I just got my Walkera 36 from ebay. Charged the Ni-MH battery that came with it, and followed the set up described by NOZZARCHELI in this forum. Very good tips with the PLT and PZT. Got my heli to hover for about a minute or two. I am Newbie to helicopter, although I could get this one to work. It is pretty stable and tail does not move a lot. I have a Esky Honeybee FP, and I had to lot of trouble keeping the tail stable. The Walkera is a pleasant surprise and very easy to handle.

I noticed that even with the Ni-MH battery that came with the helicopter, the motor runs pretty hot. I had the helicopter hover only for 2 minutes, and trimmed it for maybe another 2 minutes, and the motor is very hot. I had also ordered the Walkera brushless motor and ESC, however not installed that yet. Any help on how to replace stock motor with brushless would be appreciated.

Where is a good place to buy spare parts, upgrades for the Dragonfly 36 ?. I will be also looking for a Li-po after the brushless upgrade..[;)][;)]

floatyboy -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/31/2005 3:56:25 AM)

Sparkling fist, why is your motor on an angle? Whats with all the cable ties. I see you have a blue covered lipo, I had one of these and i had to send it back cose they can be manufactured with very low discharge rates, does your lipo work well? curious...[;)]

inline2542 -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/31/2005 4:11:46 AM)

I have one of the blue lipo 2200 mah batt, maybe it is not discharging properly (making the engine rev up and down at full throttle) which is making it hop and wag. What is a good alternate battery to buy?

floatyboy -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/31/2005 4:47:41 AM)

I paid for one of those blue lipos (made in china) and a stock of the wall charger, i tried using it on the stock 400 brushed motor, it was crap. But it wasnt the charger as a friend of mine had an expensive lipo charger, even after he charged it, it was still crap. I had better peformance off the 12 volt nimh battery. I could get 6 mins out of that with good power.

Also the stock trans and reciever combo let me down with lost transmission a few times causing 3 crashes and $100 nzd in parts. I now use a walkera brushless and esc. I got my hands on a 1800mah lipo (10c discharge) battery. Made by 3E flight. They are $69.00 in new zealand. WOW! what a difference. Now i could fly higher than what i'm comfortable with! And i get 20 minutes out of it. Also it fits very snuggly into the front of the heli and doesnt protude out to far. The battery has cell balancing plugs as well as dual esky/walkera plugs on it. I have ordered another. I can practise now for a long time and i'm currently working on my tail out hover....which proves to be very hard.

by the way i have changed reciever and am using my 8 channel jr radio on it( i have a bigger heli), however i here that using the existing radio gear with brushless gets rid of the loosing transmission thing. I got sick of it being unreliable and replaced the gutz![;)]

dragonfly36 -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/31/2005 4:51:21 AM)

actually i purchased a brand new 1800maH that is a 3 cell but seperated 3 cell. It discharges slower and is actually more powerful then the blue 2200maH. It doesn't heat up because air can travel between the cells. It makes it so my dragonfly 36 (waste of money) can lift off the ground!!!

floatyboy -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/31/2005 5:02:33 AM)

My battery also has visible seperation between cells. When i charge it , it doesnt even get slightly warm. After a 20 minute run the battery is warm, the motor is hot and the esc is warm. I think the walkeras are priced cheap and are a bit cheap. Once i made the mods i was very pleased. In hindsight if i was going to do it all over again!!! I should of bought a Trex! The DF36 is alot more of a heli compared to my old honey bee 2 ccpm. I could fly well with it but as a heli to start off with.......bad move! I had no experience with flight then.

dragonfly36 -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/31/2005 5:08:32 AM)

i've had to do multiple adjustments on the rear because it was constantly turning clockwise and i had to counter it with trim all the way to the opposite. with a few adjustments i got it to fly to about shoulder height. and that's about it for me.

floatyboy -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/31/2005 5:27:06 AM)

What happened to you tail? Did you have the servo mounted right? I fiddled with mine a bit and i just in the end placed the servo horn at 90 degrees to the tail boom and the tail horn the same. So far the heli flys well for just a fun fly around. But i get the feeling on my heli that if i was to throw it around a little i reckon the tail would loose it. I'm not tooooo confident on this tail gyro.

sparkling_fist -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/31/2005 3:38:52 PM)

as you can see i dont have the main gear.. i broke it off becuase it was worn down completly,
so i had to use the second gear and only way i could do that was by tilting the motor,

my li po works well

Now I've seen it all.
I can see where you get your tag "Barbarian for life" [:D]

I don't see how you can keep a good gear mesh using wire ties to hold the motor, and by using the smaller main gear you've really raised the final drive ratio a lot. If your motor and battery can take the extra strain, you'll get quite a few more rpm out of the blades, though. Hey, as long as it works and you don't plan to do any auto- rotating, go for it. Might want to order both new gears, though. I'm sure the one you're using will strip eventually.
Personally, I think your fix is a masterpiece of Barbarian engineering [sm=spinnyeyes.gif] and a credit to patchwork helicopter mechanics everywhere.

Mikey-Flies -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/31/2005 6:19:03 PM)

KABOOM! Had an inflight failure that has led to yet another light crash. This latest one was caused by a flybar paddle ejecting while hovering about shoulder height. Immediately the whole flybar assembly also ejected with a rather loud craa-aack.

Damage so far.

Main blades - Both of the CF blade ends are scraped a bit. One has a tiny piece of delaminated polymer that will need to be CA'd down. If this causes any aerodynamic weirdness I can smoothen both ends with some epoxy and rebalance. All in all very little damage to the blades considering both contacted rough cement at a very high rpm (not a direct whack, but about a 30 deg grazing angle).

Lower mixing arms - both sheared off. I think I'll replace these with upgraded ball raced items.

Flybar is bent a bit and one flybar paddle has a bit of a nick on one corner. May replace with lightened paddles and paddle holders as the stock ones seem to not be straight or straightenable. This might be by design (they slightly bend up towards the tips of the paddles relative to the flybar?).

Didn't get a chance to check the spindle shaft, but dollars to donuts it is bent.

Main shaft appears to be straight after giving it a very slight rotation test but time will tell if it is bent also.

The heli didn't actually tip it just didn't land straight up and down (no flybar so no cyclic control) but it did end up right side up on the skids.

I had loctite on all the grub screws on the flybar but perhaps not enough (I used it sparingly). Is this an area that I should he-man snug and use a fair bit more loctite on?

The heli was flying fairly nice. Tail control was good but had a tiny wag in the tail. I'm sure a little tweaking and that will go away.

edzinator -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (11/1/2005 1:39:17 AM)

Borisboy,

on brushless controllers the motor is the speaker for the tones, well most of them so the motor has to be connected to the esc. Just take off the main rotor blades or move the pinion away from the main gear to test unit. also I am using a GWS 6ch receiver, GWS ICS300 brushed motor controller, a small 4cell Ni-mh 600 for security, and my 36 is back in the air again! Wahooo! all these parts are left overs from foamies and i dont recommend you try to use these... save the Advil for when your sick... lol I'll post a gallery photo asap

buzzpop -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (11/2/2005 6:53:45 AM)

Got my 36 just over a week ago, with Align 420LF Brushless Motor, Align ESC, Align 1900mAH LiPo and replaced the stock blades with Align Fiber blades and C/F tail Blades. A friend of mine went with T-REX 450XL with a not too different setup motor/esc.

We were both pretty suprised that after a bit of tightening and adjustment, the Walkera 36 with this setup is currently outperforming the T-REX in both stability and power. My friend probably has a bit of fine tuning to do, but this demonstrates the potential of a 'cheap' heli vs some of the much more expensive alternatives. (mind you my 'extras' are starting to add up!)

I wouldn't even bother with the stock motor or battery, but the receiver, gyro and transmitter seem quite OK, although I have been recommended to change them.

buzzpop....wish I knew your real name....Clint here xcell123....how do you feel about your Gyro how did it fly for you how did it respond for you.....I need to know as much as I can about the Walkera Gyro.if you read some of my postings mine was smoked out-of-the-box.people are saying it responds poorly in one direction and good in another how was yours...if you would would please see my profile and leave me a personal message...say whatever you want send as many pictures as you want I'm going crazy because my machine is ready except for my parts...I've tuned up the motor and the rotor everythings rebuilt all linkage is smooth every part is friction free...I've got photos of everything hope you guys are enjoying them.check out my new front-end....I'll probably be using my computerized radio from my Nitro helicopter though because it compensates for all the small details.
