There seem to me to be an issue with the esc built in to the 4 in 1 reciever, its only a guess but while Ive been rebuilding my 36 after a crash, I plugged all the servos and gyro into the reciever and the battery was also connected straight onto the rx battery connection, I did this to quickly fine tune the pitch etc, after about 5 mins the reciever was red hot, although I wasnt over working anything and the, motor was not even connected, so without changing any pitch settings I plugged the battery in through the brushless esc still no motor and did the same test after 5 mins the rx wasnt even warm.
Seems like something in the rx is drawing to much power or there is a faulty component, ever since changing to the brushless config, although the motor gets hot without a heatsink the other components stay reasonable and the ni-mh battery seems to give a lot more life than before, so I would say that the rx is more than likely the problem rather than the motor.

hey xcell123 here quick question to anyone using the brushless motor and speed controller.does using this setup exclude the built-in speed controller for the brushed motor.in other words not using the stock speed controller anymore in favor of the brushless 30 amp speed controller...I'm used to Nitro and new to this brushless technology.I'm still waiting should have my 36 next week...and to all 36 owners can you please post more photographs and videos. I love them their great fun to see.when I get mine I will post photographs in my profile...check it out you can see my Nitro bird with floats,as I flew it over the lakes often....I'll probably get a float kit for the 36 .

thanks guys

Xcell123,

When you have the brushless motor and ESC setup, the stock reciever/speed control just functions as a RX.

DDrogon -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/17/2005 9:05:53 AM)

thank you CitYbYdBaY...I asked this question because of the posting about the overheating receiver and he said when he switched to the brushless speed controller it helped out.just had me worried a bit.I hear on the form the electronics aren't that good. I'm not too worried as I'm pretty handy at checking and modifying and fixing this kind of stuff so I think I'll get lucky hopefully.. I want this helicopter so bad it looks so cool and I'm already a pilot. I ordered it on the seventh I should have it next week..waiting is killing me.

happy rotary

Tiger27 -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/17/2005 2:38:51 PM)

Nozzarchelli, just move the servo arm, I always try to set mine up so that they close to 90 degrees that way they have max range either way and that works well with the walkera so should also work with some good servos. You can also with the tail servo move it up or down the boom a bit to get a different deflection.

NOZZARCHELI -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/17/2005 4:43:29 PM)

Thanks for the info Tiger27....all sorted now.............................cool pics in your gallery Xcell123, thanks again for the info, Cheers

thecheatscalc -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/17/2005 7:55:34 PM)

well I do think there is something faulty in the Rx, mine would heat up fast if the motor wasn't running, I think what ever was regulating the charge was just pulling the power instead of the motor, but still, when I got my brushless ESC they run cold now. Also I think one of my li-polys died today, er yesterday, but it was so imbalanced I'm amazed it lasted this long! anyways two of the cells are 4.35v and one is 3.9v and the charger puts out 1A of 12.5v power. that's perfect for a balanced battery, unfrotunaltly mine was anything but that, oh well.
ok as for the brushless ESC it's completely seperate from the RX system and is soldered on the cables that connect to the battery. the only thing connected to the Rx is the servo type plug that regulates speed.oh and just ask if you want any of my pics from my heli, battery, and blades.

Mikey-Flies -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/17/2005 8:14:04 PM)

I had an interesting (and frightening) experience today.

On my heli the upper mixing arms are alum. with threading balls with links going to the lower mixing arms/washout base and IN FLIGHT one of the little ball's screw popped out. Suddenly the heli was more than a little unstable and pitch was REALLY slow to respond, then would whip to the desired setting. This produced a very hard to control oscillation in the veritcal axis that quickly ejected the battery. Free flight helicopter in a 6x6 space in the garage! Luckily it landed w/o too much damage. The CF blades are fine, one is just a little scuffed and the spindle shaft is way bent. I think I got off very lucky!

Now I need to track down the tiny screw used for the ball and a spindle shaft.

thecheatscalc -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/17/2005 8:30:41 PM)

put a drop of locktite or superglue in the hole before re screwing. besides that I really can't help you, did it strip or what?, pics please!

Storminatwork -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/17/2005 11:01:17 PM)

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum - in fact new to all forums so please be gentle with me!

Hope I'm not starting a new thread here (see I've been reading up and have the basic terminology!) but I need some help. i've just bought a Walkera 36 - I also have a Hirobo Shuttle - and was wondering if the Walkera gear is compatible with my Futaba tranny and if it is how I need to set things up? (Crystals, receiver channels, etc)

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Mikey-Flies -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/17/2005 11:21:22 PM)

Pics will have to wait until I am back at home. I'll check the threads in the piece it was screwed into to determine if it stripped. These were quite tight and I hadn't loctited them yet :/ I don't yet have a loctite for plastic - Plastic or metal - Plastic yet either but this was a metal - metal joint so no excuse :)

Does the standard 36 lower mixing arms on the washout base have little metal balls screwed into the arms as well? These should be parts in the #HM036-015 package for reference. If so I could buy them and use the ball from that arm (or even just the screw up top). From some of the images I've found online it doesn't look like it does. If not, I'll have to do some digging to find the right screw size.

DDrogon -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/17/2005 11:21:55 PM)

Xcell123 here ,lots of little things to learn about helis ...airplanes don't have very many critical strategic screws,but on the other hand helicopters do.of course my Nitro helicopters were all kits I had to build.lock tight everything,Mikey-Flies just mentioned a ball link on their main rotor came apart in flight it's just not worth crashing.... lock tight everything considered strategic you guys like rotor head parts..when my helicopter 36 gets here I will be rebuilding the rotor head,I'll just check out the frame,pull the motor to make sure everything spins freely.someone said part of the fun is rebuilding these things...maintenance is the most fun for me other than flying......crashing sucks....I wish I could see more pictures....mostly because mine is not here and the wait is killing me.

coasterdude23 -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/17/2005 11:43:14 PM)

Hey guys,
I own a Walkera 36, I was wondering, how long do you charge the 2200 lipos for?

DDrogon -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/17/2005 11:52:38 PM)

hi Xcell here..I'm not a pro at this yet...but let's just say you had a 2200ma per hour charger ,,,then one hour...see my point.if you know what your charge rate is you can calculate the time to charge,if it doesn't cut off automatically set timers...use your stove if you have to anything ...and then watch it for the last few minutes so it doesn't get hot.....just trying to help I'm still waiting as you can see for my helicopter and Lipo set up to arrive than I will be having the same problems until I get a good charger that will do the work for me.

NOZZARCHELI -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/17/2005 11:56:10 PM)

Just charge it until the light turns green on the charger............about 1 1/2 hours really.......hope this helps.

yo guys............i have a small problem.......my heli power up fine and then when it lifts off it goes into a uncontrollable spin....i thought it might have been the gyro,i ajusted it and it had no effect.....and i also ajusted the tail servo arm..........the servo moves the same distance both ways now........i don'tknow what it is..............the heli is fine until it lifts off............any help please.......thanks...

MATT(UK)

GTX SlotCar -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/18/2005 12:13:01 AM)

Matt, can you spin it before it takes off?

NOZZARCHELI -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/18/2005 12:38:03 AM)

Hi Gary..........what happens is, the heli starts up normally...........rotors get to a good rpm and the tail rotor compensates like normal......as soon as i lift off the tail starts spinning to the ringt and i have no way to control it.....tried the trim,ajusting the servo and the gyro...........mabe i did something wromg here.......please help......thanks

MATT(UK)

Im off to bed now guys....1:02am here in the uk..............

GTX SlotCar -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/18/2005 1:10:31 AM)

Matt, I don't suppose it could be something simple like maybe you accidentally hit a DIP switch on the transmitter and now the tail is working backwards?

So, when the rpm are up, but before it lifts off, can you spin it in each direction? Can you control the tail then?

thecheatscalc -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/18/2005 1:28:15 AM)

nope he's stripped one of the inphase strap wheel assys. this is one of those little white gears that move the belt, take it off and make sure the groove isn't shallow, if it is then make it deeper then being careful superglue it back in place. I've had this problem as well why it seems so wierd is because it only slips once the restance has built up, check by holding it down then start it up make it so the tail has NO pitch and go to full throttle in CP mode with main rotor pitch at 0. now just increase the tail pitch and you should hear one or two things, the tail slow down/ main blades speed up. did you crash this or have VERY jerky start ups? if so you'll want to spin it up by hand from now on just to keep that walkera esc from tearing up your heli.

I charge my li-poly for 1:40. I've found that any more is harmful for your battery, and makes that cycle much shorter.

No your futaba Tx probably won't work with the walkera Rx, actually no Tx will, you'll need to upgrade it if you go for that.

NOZZARCHELI -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/18/2005 5:22:18 PM)

Thanks thecheatscalc, i'll give it a go.........cheers again guys.

EDITED ::::: YO Guys.....i have checked all the gears and they are all fine.......i think my tail belt is loose......how do i tighten it....................i don't have the slightest..........please help.....really annoying....thanks
