Good news and bad news for me. I did get my #4 in a nice 20 second hover about 5' up before it got away from me and hit the top of a garbage can.

My #36 news isn't so great. It won't lift off and the battery only lasts about a minute. Then the blades stop spinning. I turn down the throttle for a few seconds, turn it back on and I can get the blades to spin for a few more seconds. The battery gets warm, too. I charged it until it got hot, about an hour. I don't think NiMh batteries need to be cycled, but I'll try charging it again.

The blades would spin like crazy when I didn't have any pitch in them, but they really slowed down when I added it (3 or 4 + clicks on the left and 6 or 7 on the right knob). The gear mesh is a little tighter than I'd like, but there is still some play. I think it's OK.
I've read that others have had this problem and solved it, I just can't remember where. I don't know where to go from here.

[edit] I almost forgot. How should the switches be set? I have the right switch on the front set to N (for normal, I guess) but the #7 DIP switch on the back is set to CCPM, not Normal. The manual for these things is worthless.

My #36 has been in peices as i have replaced the rx and a new brushless. I have messed about with the pitch control links a fair bit . Can someone out there give me an idea as to how long you have your pitch control links set too (length). I just need a ball park to start with as mine are up the KAK!

    cheers

Hi I need to ask I crashed my 36 last night, It was fun though.finally got it off the ground...But I cant figure out now, does your main axis move around or is your whole main axis (suipocover) solid and only just your main blades are able to move and adjust. The main axis looks ok but now the main blades wont line up the axis moves around inside, do you think its broke internally?? Is there a straight solid rod that connects the two main blades together through the main axis?? Thanks Ron

Ronikki, theres an axle through the t piece maybe its bent, if so take it out and you can tap out the bend reasonably easily. There is a rubber o ring then a plastic tube then two bearings and nut, the blades can move via the bearings, I think the axle is stationary because of the rubber o rings but I'm not positive on that.

Floatboy about 23mm between the two ball links, but you can adjust them so that you get the correct pitch settings.

Gtx_slotcar the supplied nimh charger is rubbish you really need to get a good charger Im using a swallow advance and this will charge and cycle them giving much better performance, and they wont get hot either.

When I'm done charging, the battery measures 13.54 V. A good charger would, no doubt, treat the battery better, but there should be enough power in it to lift the heli. I think it's just a bad motor. These things are cheap so QC is poor. If I could get the end bell off, I could balance the armature, polish the stacks, score the commutator, move the magnets so the armature would be centered in the can and maybe even advance the timing.

Before I contact my vendor and ask for a replacement motor, are there any adjustments that anyone can recommend?

Do I have to remove everything attached to the main axle ( lower blades, elbow bars, etc..) or can I just remove that cover and fix the problem?? Thanks Ron Do I start with the main screw (black allen wrench screw) then work my way up by removing everything else to get to it??

Ah missed the bit about the stock motor, the investment into brushless is really well worth it, the heli will leap into the air once one of these is installed, mine was a bit the same with the stock motor, it couldnt really get out of ground effect. I think the problem is not actually the stock motor though, but more likely the built in esc as the Rx stays a lot cooler with a brushless esc and others have mentioned using the motor elsewhere with some success.

As for the charger my nimh stops charging at about 15.5v so a charger is something you will need at some stage, the swallow does lipos and nimh nicad etc so is quite handy there are quite a few other chargers as well this just happens to be the one I got.

Ronniki16, just remove the blades the blade holders and undo the nuts, everything else will slide off and the axle will slip out, you can leave the upper part of the blade holder attached to the ball link if you like, then just roll the axle on a table and see if there is a bend, if there is gently tap it out until it is straight. I have some pictures but have no idea how to post them, and nowhere to host them unfortunately.

DEFINATLY go for the 420LF excellent motor, before you dump the stock though make sure the belt tension isn't too high. also that sounds like the exact same thing that happenend to mine. it stopped once the brushless engine was installed. please save yourself the trouble, get the brushless motor. also look at heli fever under walkera for how to adjust stuff I'm making a thread like bdavidsons eflite assy there, have a look it can't hurt.

OK, I've read some previous posts and figured out how to loosen the belt tension. It was as tight as a drum and if I tried to spin the main rotor (power off) it would just stop when I let go of it. Now that it's looser, the rotor will continue to spin for 2 or 3 revolutions. I don't know how loose or tight it should be, though. I don't want it so loose that I end up with other problems. It would be helpful if someone would give their rotor a spin and let me know how many revolutions or how freely it spins, so I could have some kind of a guide to go by.
The battery wasn't fully charged, but I still couldn't get it off the ground. The ESC and motor are cool, but the battery gets hot. I've tried playing with the pitch, zero at full throttle and then start increasing it, but it just won't leave the ground. Nothing is shaking and the blades and flybar seem to be tracking perfectly. I'll fully charge the battery tomorrow morning and give it another try.
In the meantime, someone, please spin your rotor and let me know how freely it spins.

The Align 420LF and ESC seems to be the way to go, especially since the Walkera doesn't have a working soft start, but I'd like to get this thing off the ground with the stock motor. At the very least, it would mean I'm not covering up a problem just by throwing more power at it.

To end things on a positive note, I held my #4 in a good hover for around 20 seconds at my office today, and didn't get into trouble.

Hey to all the guys and gals using the align ESC with the 420LF brushless motor, does your heli spool up with the soft start nice and smooth?
