If your esc has a bec circuit (likely) and you want to use it (likely) then you would put a battery connector on the battery side (2 wire side) of the esc, connect the motor to the 3 wire side, and plug it into channel 3 on the reciever. It will feed power to the receiver but draw power from the battery directly. You can leave the old connectors alone on the walkera receiver.

Do you know if they come with the battery connectors?

Hi mikey

Cheers for that,makes sence iwill get on and fit then.

Hi GTX

I have the align brushless setup and comes with batt conectors as well as connectors from motor to esc
hopr that helps

GTX SlotCar -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/23/2005 11:02:52 PM)

Yes borisboy, that's a big help.
Where did you get your pinion? I still can't find them on grandrc.com.

I just read a site with some photo on Brushless Motor and ESC.
http://www.ehirobo.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=26_50&products_id=3279

Besides, Anyone try to buy from www.ehirobo.com?

thecheatscalc -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/24/2005 5:09:56 PM)

ok here's the pinnons... http://www.grandrc.com/inc/sdetail/4213 ungh, I DEFINALATLY putting that in my sig!

borisboy -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/24/2005 7:08:05 PM)

Hey Guys

Grand rc is agreat place for parts but it is terrible to navigate around its hard to find anything.but just bare with it search around and save off the important pagesetc,i got my pinions from there, follow the links from the earlier posts.Its great for all the carbon fiber upgrades.I will be recovering my bird with carbon fiber as i think it looks geat.

cheers all

floatyboy -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/24/2005 7:37:50 PM)

Hey BUACC,

I have dealt with ehirobo since day one. They are ok to deal with. I bought a lipo and charger off them
and it was crap! The lipos are wrapped up in blue plastic and are well knowen for being of poor quality
with no advertised discharge rate. Thats for a reason though! they dont know what it is! I had to send it back and they have sent me a new lipo which i am due to recieve soon. Basically they are good but dont expect any good technical advice, the chinese make them but they dont seem to know much about them. After all look at the instructions![;)]

inline2542 -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/25/2005 5:07:25 AM)

thecheatscalc,
Hi again, I just got my align 420lf and esc 25a with pinions from grand rc. This may be a dumb question, but do I still need to connect the white wire and the pink wire coming from the receiver that used to be directly connected to the stock motor to the black wire and red wire coming from the esc on the side toward the receiver. I assume I do. If so, which one to which, to make sure i get it right. I did connect them and it seemed to work ok but the motor starts hard and fast, (around mid throttle). I am guessing it's set on airplane mode and not heli mode? I don't know, I'm new to the hobby. Like everyone else my stock motor would barely lift it off the ground and wouldn't hold for long and got really hot, so I'm hoping this motor will help. Also can you give me a little insight on how to program it, the instructions are kind of unclear. And what settings do you have yours set on. What do you reccomend? Thanks, us newbies sure appreciate your expertise.

thecheatscalc -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/25/2005 7:41:22 PM)

uhh wha? you're supposed to patch the +/- wires from the ESC into the +/- power wires going into the Rx. that's what I did and it works great. then the servo plug goes into slot num 4. after that and you've connected the motor look in the included manul. you're supposed to put the throtte into full postion then plug in the batt. next look in the manual for the instructions on how to program it. you'll want med freq, batt protection, (off with ni-mh batts), and it in heli mode and BRAKE OFF THIS IS ONLY FOR PLANES!!! heh otherwise when you crash it'll tear itself to pieces as it slowly goes down. please note that when in heli mode once the throttle reaches the point you've set it at it'll revert back to plane mode unless you put throttle to minimum (suggested, it let's you have full control of the throttle again, unstead of slowly moving into position, don't worry about it you'll see what it does once in heli mode.) so just put it to a low postion below take off and wait for it to get to speed. then try clicking it to a different postions and if the response is immedatly then take off. It's odd I know but just get used to it. it's not a problem

borisboy -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/25/2005 9:13:18 PM)

HEY THECHEATSCALC

Just need to chk what you said because me esc is connected direct to the battery and the esc is plugged into slot 3 on the rx, which is different to what you said.Are you sure your right, otherwise i have done it wrong,if you think about it you can do it both ways just not sure if you put the esc into slot 3 or 4

what do you think

cheers

GTX SlotCar -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/25/2005 9:40:29 PM)

As I recall from the instructions (I haven't done it myself), you can do it 2 ways. The way borisboy is doing it, the esc gets it's power right from the battery and the esc feeds power to the receiver. That way the power to the esc is pure and the motor and esc aren't drawing power from the receiver, which lets it run cooler.
Or something like that [8|]

Mikey-Flies -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/25/2005 10:59:52 PM)

I would definitely wire Battery -> Esc -> motor with the throttle servo plug going to channel 3 on the receiver. This way the only voltage/amps going to the receiver are what is needed for itself and the servo's. More power through the receiver = more heat which is bad. Routing the esc through the receiver may even limit power to the esc but I'm not sure on that (depends on how the receiver/esc is configured).

Aside from all that it sounds like more work to do it any other way.

Also, are you SURE you want the brake on? With the momentum of the blades I can't help but think this would be bad for the motor/controller? All of my phoenix manuals and what I have read state clearly to disable the brake for helicopters. Brake ON is ONLY for planes...?

ultraviolet -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/25/2005 11:43:05 PM)

I believe the brake should be off if your heli does not have a one way bearing for autorotation.
The brake should be on if you do have autorotation capability ( the blades will continue to spin after the
motor shuts off ).

I predict that the Chicago White Sox will win the world series.

GO SOX !!! [:-]

thecheatscalc -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/26/2005 1:52:36 AM)

NO!! keep that brake off!!! it should be the other way around anyways. but once again as it slowly lowers in speed your heli is bouncing in a very expensive dance with parts and your cash dropping though your pocket like a red hot knife through, er, butter. after that you'll need a new heli as the replacements are too much. If you don't have autorotating then jut make sure you lower the speed down slow, if you're crashing, you'll save on parts as you can use the motors restance as a brake and slow those rotors down quite a bit, maybe sparing that shaft.

borisboy -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/26/2005 3:17:51 PM)

Hi miky-flies

can i just clarify that you agree with me in how to connect it or are you saying something else, as i dont want to heat up mr rx or esc.

cheers

GTX SlotCar -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/26/2005 4:29:48 PM)

I'd post a picture of the connections, but I don't know how to upload it from my hard drive to this message.

jfcrow -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/26/2005 4:50:36 PM)

For all you having problems with your lithium Polymer batteries here is a link you should read. www.hardingenergy.com/pdfs/LiPolymer.pdf

You will be glad you did

GTX SlotCar -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/26/2005 5:43:16 PM)

I figured it out. Here's the connections.

GTX SlotCar -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/26/2005 5:49:11 PM)

Oh no, now that I've figured out how to post pictures, I don't know if I can stop. Don't have a pic of my 36, but here's my #4.

buacc -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/26/2005 6:32:37 PM)

Hi floatyboy,

Thank you for your recommandation, i bought the brushless version #36 from eHIROBO.com
And i got it today, really fast and great service although i pay more for the shipping fee.

Hi boys,
Also, i found their photo on this brushless verison #36, happy to share with you guys:
http://www.ehirobo.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=26_50&products_id=3279

I don't know their connection method is good or not. But i can fly with this connection very well.
I am happy to have that as i can fly up once i got it (Just up and down... that's very happy as i am newbie).
My friend tell me that i am very lucky becuase he can't fly up until now with his normal #36.

P.S. The only bad thing is their 1800mAh battery is not really fit on the helicopter, I need to fix it by a wire myself.

kg4izw -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/26/2005 9:12:31 PM)

Hi everyone. I am totally new to the copter hobby, but have been around RC cars all my life. You guys have a HUGE wealth of knowledge and tips in these 8 pages so far. I have spent several hours reading them all. There are just sooo many things I dont know that I will need to know when my Dragonfly #36 gets here next week. Is there any way that all the valuable setup info and tips could be put in one place maybe on its own thread where people like me, that dont know where to begin, can find and use all this valuable info??

borisboy -> RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 * (10/26/2005 9:22:54 PM)

H i GUYS

I have a problem, i hooked up myvesc and brushless today but cant get esc to bleep at me so i can make sure i have it in softstart mode it isnt connected to motor as i didnt want the blades to bturn is this wrong, or what else could it be, its wired gust like GTX said but it wont bleep pls help
