I have yet to build mine, but parts is a BIG deal, when you think about flying a ARF....

Flip it over, and you have to MAKE Parts, from scratch, w/o ANY plans to go by...

Can anyone tell me if the fuel tank and stopper in the "kit" are OK to use with gasoline fuel. I know the lines need to be replaced, but the stopper looks just like the gas ones from DuBro, just a different diameter.

The fuel tank stopper on mine was for glo fuel only, not gas. Just FYI, the instructions mention using a .91 4 stroke. Don't try it, I started out with a 1.20 4 stroke and it was marginal for power. Went to a Saito 1.80 and it flies like a dream. Sounds like you are going with gas so it won't matter, just some helpful info. Mike

The kit ships with a glow only stopper. If your going Gas then you'll need to purchase either the dubro or sullivan gas stopper kit. Wit a little luck I'kk have mine ready to fly by November.

Thanks, I've converted mine to gas stopper and I'm breaking in a DLE-20. So far looks good. I was flying it with an OS160 (had one), but it was way too much power. The DLE-20 is turning a Zinger 16/6-10 at 7500 after only about 30 minutes on the test stand. Looks good.

Thanks,

Rich

I'll be curious how well your Hawk flies with the DLE-20, I had a Saito 1.20 in mine and I had 2500 RPM more than your DLE20 with a 16x6 prop and it flew ok but at full throttle. Turns were a little heavy and loops were close to stall at the top when entering from level flight. I'm sure it will fly just be careful as you might be behind the power curve. I would lean more to a DLE30 myself.

I flew one for a long time with a YS-120 in it. Did ok but needed full power most of the time - lacked vertical. My current one uses a FPE2.4 (40cc) and what a difference. Really makes the plane come alive.

I flew mine with a saito 150 and felt it was ovepowered. If I get another one I will probably use on OS91 FX 2 stroke as it is the top end of the recommended engines and power is euivalent of a 120 FS

Hey guys, I just finished and maidened my P6E Hawk. I am running a Saito 150GK swinging a 18x6 prop. Have to run kinda rich, and gotta run mine @ full throttle all the time!! Does anyone know if down sizing to a 17x6 prop will even help? This baby floats in like a dream with an 18x6, and I dont wanna lose that if I can help it!

I have just finished my Hawk with a Saito 150. Although I haven't flown it yet, I ran the engine on the bench with an 18x6 and IMHO it was way too much prop. The gurus in my club agreed. I am going down to a 16x8 two blade to start out and then try some three blade combos.

I'm flying mine with a Saito 180 and a 16x8 2 blade and it's a perfect match. The 16x8 on the 150 should be just fine. Mike (ACF)

Just take the rubber insert that you use in your starter and flip it around. You will find that the hole on the other end of the insert will fit the bolt almost exactly. There's no special starter insert for bolts that I know of.

Just proves what a wonderful plane this is. Of all my giant scale planes, even the scale ones I have built from kits, this is by far my favorite to fly.

I havent, but one issue I had with a G-38 is that I couldnt get it to sit still on pavement. I finally had to install a spring and washers on my tailwheel to keep it from pulling the plane at the possible lowest idle. I also installed a reviever operated kill switch for added safety in case the tailwheel didnt hold it.It is possible you will have the same problem with the DLE 30.

Yes, I have one with a DLE30. I have flown it with an cheap 18X8 prop and it is OK. I'm going to try a 19X6 and see if it makes a difference. I am having an issue trimming. The more throttle... the more down trim needed. I'll let you guys know how it plays out. I'm changing incidences first and then will go on to thrust angles. Now I need some good weather.
