ORIGINAL: bubbagates I have this engine running in a Carl Goldberg Sukhoi SU-26MX at 11.5lbs turning a Mezjlik 18X6 on 30% nitro and I think it was turning it aroud 8700 ready to fly. While vertical is not completely unlimited, it is pretty decent. whaturi has seen this plane fly many times with this combo. I think that I would remove the baffle from the muffler I would get even more out of it, but I am actually pretty satisfied at the way it flies. I'm not wanting this plane for 3D, mainly sport/IMAC type flying. I did have it hovering a bit and it's pullout was nothing to write home about, but it did pull out. Wow 30% nitro and loading it @8700 static! Are you flying at high throttle settings? What glow plug are you running? How is your mileage? Don't you have to set it very rich with 30% on this motor? Have you tried lower nitro? Actually I just started to lean it a bit and the last I checked for someone else I was at 2 1/4 turns out on the HS. It is just starting on it's 4th gallon of fuel. I normally fly at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and punch it going vertical or while doing slow rolls, 4 point rolls or even high speed KE passes. I am using the stock tank, which I think is something like 17 ounces and I normally hold my flights to 10 minutes and have just under 1/2 tank left over. I have tried lower nitro (15% heli) and it still flew but it definitely was in need of a prop change. Probably around a 17x6 or 16x6. The glow plug is whatever came with it, most likely an OS #8. The engine is really starting to come in now. When I first bought it all I had was 30% for my Saito and heli so I used it. I then bought the 15% and hated it so that is why I stayed with it. Max prop on this engine is the APC 18X6 so I firgured that since the Mezjlik I had lying around was a ton lighter it would not be too much of a problem. I get no detonation. I use heli blends (30/24) since the cowl blocks a good bit of the top of the engine, even though I have a cutout right in front of the head, the head is still back about 4 inches and I really hate building a baffle for this puppy. I actually was amazed that this engine has held up with the high nitro content I am running. I've owned a ton of OS engines and up until this one, anything much over 20% and they are detonated something fierce. You should hear my OS160 on 30%. I filled it with it by accident and I thought the engine was going to come apart.
