With that size engine you will need a gas station to keep it going Flipper

I have a 120AX and love it. Lots of power and the fuel consumption is not bad at all, in fact I was surprised at how good it was. There is no comparison to the YS120 I have. It does need in flight refueling but it is a fine engine just cost a lottle more to run it.

Then better install an Ignition system and use gasoline.

I really like my OS120AX, it has a lot of power and is one of the best running engines I have, I have never had a dead stick. I will put a bigger tank in next time. It replaced a OS91FX on the Ultra Stick 60.

ggroyal1, do you fly it with more power than you did with the OS91FX? My OS108 and OS160FX average about .8oz min(throttle over 15%) flying a mix of 3D and IMAC on 9 to 11 pound planes. I never checked my OS91FX for mileage, but my impression is that it did not do any better on an 8 to 10 pound plane.

I get over 13min on the stock tank of funtana 100X
I am looking to get more thrust and should try the 16/6 or the 17/6 ?
15/12 and 16/8 give me 8960-9000 on 15% wild cat in MN.. 2-gallons through 1.20 AX
Should I be getting more RPMS?

That must pull hard! If you want faster spool go with a good wood 17/6 -- about 1/2 the weight.

Hi:
I recently built a Carl Goldberg Ultimate and bolted in front a four stroke 1.2 Magnum engine. I have a TME smoke pump which I also installed, wrapping the brass tubing around the manifold and making a little hole in it to install a fitting as the way to burn the smoke oil, everything works fine and I am happy with the system and performance but I feel like I need more power for my bipe and was thinking on this OS 120 AX two stroke engine, my two questions are:
The entire airframe incluiding engine and smoke system ended up with 9 lbs and 5 oz, Is the OS 120 AX capable of handling this airframe and good to hover this plane?
The second question is:
Have anyone tried sucesfully to install a smoke system with this engine, if so which kind of muffler did you use?

Thanks:

Alfred.

I had this engine in a funtana 100x, and I thought it needed more gusto. This plane was lighter by aobut a pound to your extra. I just don't think that it would be worth the money spent on it. The magnum 4-banger sounds better anyway! The performance difference would be marginal. Put a 1.60 or the 2300 supertiger and call it a done deal. JMHO!

I have noticed that larger glow engines appear to burn less fuel per unit of displacement the larger they get. Of course, this has a lot/everything to do with how the engine is timed and ported. The OS 1.60FX is really easy on fuel, considering the amount of power that it produces. It is good to learn that the OS 1.20AX is good on fuel too.

I wonder if this rule applies to the Moki 2.10 as well? Haven't ran mine as yet.

Ed, you're on to something regarding proportionally decreasing fuel consumption as displacement of big 2-stroke glow engines increases.
I regularly run 3 Moki 2.10, a Moki 1.80 and a Saito 1.50. Believe it or not, but the 2.10 Moki uses LESS fuel than the Saito 150 - and it's cheaper (5% Nitro) fuel at that!

My usual flight envolves a fairly rigorous 10 min IMAC-style airobatic routine. With a 24oz tank, I have +/- 11 oz LEFT in the tank w/ the Mokis (14 lbs plane), but only 3 oz left after the same type of flight (also 24 oz tank) with the Saito on a 11lbs plane. And no, I'm not runing the Saito too rich .

Staying on topic, I finally test ran my new OS 120 AX this weekend. Did a quick 10 mn run on the ground alternating between slobbering rich and fast 4 stroking then flew it fairly rich for 2 flights. The engine started all times on the first or second back flip if well primed and was totally reliable. I had to close low speed NV 1/8 turn to get good transition. I fed it the 5% Omega I usually use w/ my Mokis and it liked it fine.

Even running fairly rich in the air (just breaking into 2 stroking), it pulled ny 10.5 lbs 68" WS Extra with great authority. I think I'm gonna like this engine. Oh, It also sound great w/ the new factory pitts-style muffler.

Did you ever hit 150-160mph? Im running the 1.20 AX 10%Nitro 20%Oil on a 50 size warbird with a APC 13x13N i got radared at 122 mph level flight when i tached it on the ground it was hitting 10000 RPM . I want to be able to at least hit 130 i dont know what i should try next.
