I had been running my 120 AX for more than a year. First it was mounted on a Seagull Laser and lately on a FuntanaX100. These past few months the engine became erratic and nothing I tried seemed to work (changed fuel brand, tried different glow plugs, adjusted needles, etc.), and just when I thought I had it right, problems would come right back. I was lucky I didn't lose my Funtana with so many dead stick landings. Most of the times the engine would just die when going full throttle after a few seconds running at midrange. Well fortunately, it was still under warranty and I sent it to Hobby Services. They said the cylinder liner and piston had scoring, the rear bearing was "rough", and the carb was no good, so they sent me a brand new engine (That's first class service). Apparently, there was evidence of corrosion inside the engine causing all these problems. I guess I will become a little more anal about burning out all the excess fuel and using after-run from now on.

Marvel air tool oil is the best after run and use plenty of it. I have lots of OS engines from .46 to 120. No problems over two years. Don't skimp on the after run and use it after each flying session. Marvel air tool oil is only $1.99 a bottle, I get mine at Pep Boys. MARVEL AIR TOOL OIL

Thanks George. I have I used a 50/50 mix of Marvel Mystery Oil and Transmission fluid as after run. Do you think this Marvel air tool oil is better?

Yes, the Marvel air tool oil is the best for glow engines. It lubricates, protects, and removes moisture. This info has been backed up by several bearing and air tool companies. I have nothing to do with Marvel oil company, I just use it and recommend it.

Thanks. I think I'm going to give it a try. I just ran my new 120AX for the first time. Just filled the tank, opened the needle valve 3 turns, primed the engine, connected the igniter, gently turned the spinner clockwise, and the engine starts running in "4 cycle" operation. It's amazing, I had already forgotten how good this engine runs. This also clearly shows the old one had some real serious issues.
