Not at all. I got the muffler, muffler extension, and 90 degree adapter for $30. Compared to $48 for a Bisson pitts that may not work...

Here's a nice review and video: http://www.rcgroups.com/links/index.php?id=4740

The power box with 90° adaptor weighs what 7oz? The Bisson pitts is 4.5 to 5oz. Also, I bet the pitts is be less restrictive and sounds better. I would run mine with a pump & Tank @CG.

It would be nice to know if the motor responds well to a turbo-jett.

The stock muffler kills a 108, especially when the weight of that boat anchor is factored in. A Macs tuned pipe works very well with the 108, tuned at 12,000 rpm 13-14 inch props make a lot of thrust, speed, and noise. The 7D carb is great for mufflers but not the best for tuned pipes, the old 7M has a much needed midrange adjustment. The recommended rpm range has little value. Look at the Hanno .61, they said 11,000 but its open exhaust power peaked at 17000. A tuned pipe will put the peak power anywhere you want it.

That was a great review. Based on the type of muffler baffle, it looks like the stock muffler will not cause a drop in performance compared to say a Bisson or Slimline and it's quieter.

Can you be a bit clearer about the misinformation you are talking about?

The 108 has a large power band. 3hp @ 16,000rpm is possible because it has very large transfer ports and robust interns that would hold together if revved up. This does not mean that port timing is wild on the 108. It pulls the same props that the 120 pulls very well.

The thrust figures quoted for the 108, which are very impressive, were for a non stock 108. I would be interested in seeing thrust figures for a 108 with the OS muffler - OS mufflers are almost always very restrictive.

However, I'm sure the 108 was a nice motor. If it didn't weigh so much I would have bought the 108 instead of the 91 FX that I bought a year or two ago. Hopefully the 120 combines the good features of both the 108 and the 91 FX (light weight).

The stock muffler is very restrictive. I have 2 108 stock mufflers for sale if anyone is interested. I don't run a stock muffler on any of my 2 strokes.

With the 108 There is about a 300rpm loss with the stock muffler & 16x6apc prop.

The It looks like the 108 is about 4oz more than the new 120. With my Jtec pitts it is only 32oz compared to AX120& stock muffler @30oz

Sell? You should give them away if you dislike them so much...

I have kept the standard mufflers just in case I wanted to sell the motors down the road. A lot of people like things I think are NG.

It is usually much harder to keep your plane clean using the standard muffler as well. I don't tolerate gunky planes anymore -- there are better ways.

It would be nice to know if the motor responds well to a turbo-jett.

Hopefully we can have some hard test data and recommendations by the Toledo show (April).

Nice. I think that is the muffler that will be worth the $.

Bob,

I thought you guys have a Turbo Jett muffler for the Thunder Tiger 120 2-stroke. I think port timing between 120 AX and TT 120 should not be too far off since I hear similar prop-rpm performance between these 2. Maybe you can see how that works to start.

Sean,

Yes, it is the same 20cc turbo-jett. Same one we use and have a great deal of experience with on the Jett BSE100L and BSE-120L, and the same one we recommend for the OS 1.08.

Nothing unique about the muffler for the new OS120, and it will likely produce mighty good results - but we like to test applications before making any specific recommendations.

Bob -- a bit off subject, but do you plan to do any testing on the BME ST.91gasser and Turbo-Jett combo?

Thanks
