I'm cross-posting this (I also posted in the RC Nitro On-Road forum.) Perhaps someone at HPI could offer some insight?

I've recently gotten back into RC and picked up an electric RS4 Rally kit last season. Lots of fun, but I've always wanted a nitro car. Problem is, the surfaces I'd primarily be running on don't really lend themselves well to the ride hide of your average touring car - that's why I got the Rally.

I'm curious if anyone who's familiar with the HPI stuff can advise if the following is possible:

Option A: Rally-ize an RS4 Type 3 SS (or RTR EVO.) Is there a chance the supension arms from the eRally will attach to the RS4-3? Some slightly longer shocks and some fiddling with suspension geometry could give me the increased ride height...

Option B: De-truckize an MT2. Perhaps the suspension arms/dogbones/etc from the old Super Nitro Rally would fit? The HPI site says the Super Nitro Rally was based on the original MT so maybe it's not a total long shot? The wheelbase of the MT2 is around 300mm I think, so assuming I could get the track width narrow enough I might be able to fit a Super-sized body on it...

As you can see I'm after a touring car with some extra ground clearance. If the mix-and-match thing isn't going to work I'll likely just get an RS4-3, give it as much clearance as I can, and make a stainless steel cover for the aluminum chassis plate. I'm just not keen on bashing/scratching the pretty purple chassis all to heck.

I'm a professional fabricator at a performance tuning shop so making a set of suspension arms and shock towers isn't really a big deal, but there's a time factor. We got talking at the shop one day after hours about RC, and it turned out a bunch of us still had cars. We're hopefully going to get a little "racing league" happening - something to wind down with after the day is done. :P

he said he already has the RS4 Rally, its an electric, he wants to Rally a Nitro. There was a complete conversion guide that was on the old HPI forums that told you what to do. It involved new shocks and springs, modifying the a-arms, and modifying the shock towers. I think you also had to get some new body mounts to get the body off the ground. it was a good guide and i know a couple of people had done it. I was set to take it on but was turned off because i was looking to maybe run the car on an off-road track for fun, nothing competitive, but I was told the jumps would mostly likely destroy my car, which needless to say was a drag.

Hopefully someone still has the guide or an HPI rep can post up the old guide, it was great! I might try this just for fun, do some snow rallying during the winter.
