I have a XTM 24.7 with the XTM conversion.
What is a good Spur/clutch bell gear combo

I bought this truck from a freind and it has the stock gearing. Which is way to low

What have others done?

Tanks

23 or 24/65 will still give you wheelies and good top speed(just under 40 mph) The 24.7 is limited on rpm's but has major torque it can handle the gearing very well.

Thanks for the tip.

Now can you tell me an easier way to start this thing?

The pull start is a pain. The engine has so much compresion it's very hard to pull,, Just broke the pull start cable last time out.

If it gets a little loaded up I can't pull it over at all. any ideas?

Ok I got the pull start back working and now I have a nother couple problems to deal with.

First, it seams the clutch is slipping? I replaced the shoes and it didn't seam to help. the clutch spring sure seams very tight. Is tha normal? It didn't seam to slip with the 20 tooth clutch bell?

Second, the tranny does not want to shift.?
What should I look for? I backed the spring out a little but that didn't seam to help either?

Any help would be welcome
Thanks

The easiest way to start the 24.7 is crack the glowplug a half turn start it then tighten it once it's started.
The tranny settings is 6.5 turns from lightly seated on the 2nd hex screw in the tranny adjust hole(not the angled one ). The gearing is so broad that you will not hear the 24.7 shift because it will not load the engine down. Apply throttle gradually and see if it is shifting, WOT you will never hear it.
Did you replace the clutch spring with a stock spring or an MIP spring? Are you running the shoes leading or trailing? Leading will help with the slippage. If you burned up your first set of shoes did you clean the clutchbell before running new shoes? Get all the old shoe debris off the inside of the bell or the new shoes will not have anything to grip, 150 grit sandpaper and steel wool until you get a good finish inside the bell.
If you want a clutch that will not slip use a 1/8th scale like the one Strobe manufacturers. Uses Ofna or Mugen clutch setup and is designed for the high Hp engines. Click Here

Ive been starting it with the glow plug backed out and that does work,,

I was able to here the tranny shift once in a while,, like you sugest when I'm easy on the throttle,, I'll try your 6.5 turn idea to start with and adjust from there,,

I am using the stock spring and shoes, trailing
The new 23 tooth bell was very clean and it didn't seam to slip before I changed the bell?? maybe it had some machine oil from the factory? I'll pull it off and clean and polish it up again,, If that does not work I'll probably just go to the 1/8 clutch bell and flywheel,,

I've seen those new slippers and I think that will be the next upgrade,, What are your thought on a 23 tooth bell and the 65 steel spur?

Thanks for the input

cleaning the bell with sand papaer helped alot
And the 6.5 turns out was the ticket, I think I may back it out a little so it shifts a bit earlier, but you can definatly hear is shifting now
