Bosshossv8 -> FW190 ID needed. (10/4/2005 6:13 PM)

HI ,

I purchaseda 79" to 80" Wingspan Fibreglass FW 190 (?) , I have no idea who made it...

It loooks like it is from the 80's as it has a Kraft servo in it, and it has old style air retracts (maybe Robart) ...the Robart stuff I have is smaller and the valve is different. Retractable Tail wheel.

It is all airbushed , glass fuse , wood reinforced, glass wing ( heavy) . Old glow motor..unidentified.

Pull-pull rudder, tailwheel,ailerons. Underflaps, lites in wingtips and tail. Glass cowl,

on it is says in German script (I may spell it wrong the script is cryptic looking to me) :

Cin Aufroge Der Reichsborn

#1 on the fuse.

No marking from manufacturer on the plane. All surfaces are "set-in" (hinges not seen).

Can anyone point me in the right direction to look for info??? I will post pics ASAP.

This is an awesome show scale looking bird, right down to the rivets molded in the glass.

I think it will fly terrible, given how heavy it is, but i am stoked about getting it flight worthy. All servos need updating, air lines, valves, and the motor needs service or replacement.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mike

Boss:

Pics would help, but there are a couple of European 190's out there I think in the size you're talking about. You're from Schiller Park?? We've got a nicely developing Illinois Luftflotte going between myself and a few others within an hour and a half or so. Next season's going to be a good one. Several 1/5 190's and a few 109's between us. Would be nice to try to get together and fly 'em. Where do fly at?

Bosshossv8 -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/4/2005 9:37 PM)

HI name is Miike Mietus.

I am the President of the Radio Signal Modelers Club , our AMA Chartered field for the last 25 years is located at Cumberland and Irving Park roads.

Our field is a grass field, maintained by us. Unfortunately between the wildlife and the drought it is in only OK shape. Next year we are planning a professionally maintained turf. Our club spent most of it's annual budget this year building a machine and service shed that could withstand vandals and thieves. A rarity at Forest Preserve District fields.

If you are familiar with the fieldand haven't been there in a while come on . Our fiedl sports plane benches , picnic tables, and bleacher seats.

I would imagine though, that this giant 190 will need a hard surface and a long roll out both ways. Because I am sure it is going to fly like a brick.

I have spent th eafternoon going over the motor...trying to figure out what it is.

Gas to glow conversion 6 bolt plus center hole prop hub. it had an 18x8 on it!!! No way it would be good performance on a 19lb+ aircraft, eh?? Pics soon, wife is professionally photographing it. At least I think it is gas to glow converted. .....the plug hole is the size of a lawn mower plug(Zenoah) , but with a 0.S. #8 plug adapter screwed into it. And it has Walbro style carb bolt pattern, but with an aftermarket box and an O.S 7d carb on it , facing forward. Just plain weird.

But it looks like an absolute perfect fit in the cowl...custom alum/magnes wrap-around J- shaped muffler.

Pop bottles (2) for air reservoirs. Wierd 80's servos. looks like my fathers construction techniques, aka ...anythng goes.

Flying tonite...every day/nite. Come on out for magic hour...we fly E-planes when the windsock drops at sunset//

Chad Veich -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/4/2005 10:24 PM)

Could be a Don Lien design, wingspan and construction style sound right.

masteromodels -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/5/2005 12:39 AM)

SOUNDS LIKE IT MIGHT ALSO BE AN IMP KIT WITH A WEBRA BULLY . I KNOW GREG NAMEY USE TO USE THE BULLIES CONVERTED TO GLOW AND I HAVE ONE WITH THE WALBRO CARB ON IT WITH THE GLOW CONVERSION. AND THE SIX BOLT HUB. POST PICTURES.

THANKS BOB

Bosshossv8 -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/5/2005 3:16 AM)

Master Models .....thank you.....searching and comparing have confirmed I own a Webra 35cc Bully with a 7D OS carb on a machined manifold. The muffler is J shaped and large but shaped to fit a round cowl .

I have begun reading about this engine and am impressed. This one is glow an no carbon build up or gunk in the motor. The ring is free and it looks not fully broken in . Wow!! I am going to do a full disasemble on the motor after I find docs ,diagrams , and parts sources.

Next job is to ID this plane. Pics coming after wife converts the RAW files from her new Canon. I am not interfereing with that, she is a beginner and wants to show some independence in helping with this project.

The tail wheel literally pops out from the fuse. the ailerons are pull-pull...amazing. there are small outlets for the pull-pull cables on the ailerons and they are fully shrouded. And like little lites in the wings and tail. Maybe leds but cant tell, they are airbrushed over.

Access panels for the retracts that have massive cylinders , bigger than the robarts my Pop had on his planes, his cylinders 3/8 dia...these are much bigger. cnc alum machined works. heavy metal.

will a 35cc Bully really fly this tank at 19lbs...(i am putting her on a diet) maybe 18lbs?

wulf190 -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/5/2005 3:39 AM)

Boss, My D version is an IMP kit that I'm putting together now. You should be alright with the 35. I'm using a Homelite 45 with a large Walbro on it and I think it'll be pretty fast with it. Is the fuse a green resin fiberglass, or is it the creamish colored epoxy glass? IMP uses the resin and Holman the epoxy. The FW is a good flying plane. At 19lbs for this size, it's actually not bad at all. Wing is foam right?

We have an excellent field for testing birds like this out. PM me if you want to come out this way and check it out. No issues of airspace, wind direction or overshooting to haunt you.

bosshossv8,

what (if any) "Boss Hoss V8" do you own?

JGrc -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/5/2005 4:02 AM)

Mike

19 lbs. is light weight
My Fw190, same 80" span flew great at 23lbs. 18/10 prop @ 6700rpm.

Bosshossv8 -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/5/2005 4:02 AM)

I am a builder of a few original Boss Hogg motorcycles..(now Boss Hoss, Boss Hogg was trade marked by a tv show). I still own 1, my 1st, old school,.

masteromodels -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/5/2005 4:37 AM)

i had the imp fw-190d9 a few years back and mine flew great with the webra bully. my original one also had the os carb, i'am now building the holman fw190-d9 and i'am putting in another bully this time with the walbro carb. this eng. runs very smoothe, you will be impressed how well they run. i used an 18/10 on mine. the way you are describing the aierlon set up reminds me that s the way greg did his. you might want to get in touch with him this could be one of his own planes orig. feel free to ask any other questions.

thanks bob

Bosshossv8 -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/5/2005 1:50 PM)

Bob,

thanks for the help, man. I have made a decision that this bird is going to be fully restored and updated. I want the Bully to have the best of whatever is available for it. I am will check into the walbro carb setups and contact RCIGN1. I know there are a few experts on this engine out there.

It seems there is room for improvement on the 7D/manifold conversion.

PIc as soon as my wife learns how to burn a CD on her own, I am dying here.

Cin Auferfroge der Reichsborn.....gotta figure out if that is misspelled or what it means. The C is backward (mirror) image.

wulf190 -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/5/2005 10:20 PM)

Mike,

Best as I can make out it's something to the effect of this airframe (auferfroge) is of german decent or perhaps from or to those of german decent. "der" pertains to the English "of the". And of course Reichsborn is German born. The Cin is a little tougher.

voyager_663rd -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/5/2005 10:32 PM)

You mentioned her pics were RAW files. I was interested in knowing the difference between that and "other" (TIFF, JPEG, etc) files. Interesting read for those who need to know http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/understanding-series/u-raw-files.shtml

Bosshossv8 -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/6/2005 12:35 AM)

Raw files are a type of photo files from high end cameras, i think.

Anyway....here are some converted Jpegs.

Bosshossv8 -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/6/2005 1:49 AM)

I didn;t have the proper spinner bolt...just sitting on there for show.

I need a front hub for the bully. Or mine needs to have a bolt extracted and one re-tapped.

More pics

very interested in who made this. CG , rates, specs of any kind, .........I am going to do her justice.

The Bully will get a complete once over. I hope parts can be found.

I will post photos of the wing retracts after I take one out again. They are really beefy, and the springs in the dampers and the sliders on the wheel covers need greasing. It is so cool that they move up and down... I am putting away the 3D birds for while and making this an obsession.

So,.....what does the German translate to on the fuse......eh?? Come on, can anyone read this fancy Germanic script??

wulf190 -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/6/2005 1:57 AM)

Great plane. You and I have got to fly these together next season.

Bosshossv8 -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/6/2005 3:15 AM)

I am going to test fire and run the motor the way it is...after I get a properly balanced prop setup and the hub replaced /repaired.

What model of 190 is this..can anyone tell?? I have looked all over trying to find out what squadron it was.

So much info out there to decipher ...

Going to the mtor forum for Bully advice.

fw190 -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/6/2005 3:40 AM)

That one is a Bob Holman (Don Lien Design) kit. At 19lbs it should be a great flyer. I had over 350 flights on my D9. Very predictable and no bad habbits... maybe why it has lasted so long.

whatever happened to that one Vic[:D]

Bosshossv8 -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/6/2005 4:07 AM)

Vic,

I saw the pics of yours and am insanely jealous .

I want a 3W 50 in mine. if it fits completely....how did you do it??

The three blade prop does it for me.

how do i tell if i have the same retracts as you...Jean Barton?....are there any pics or sites for those??

man , i am going to weigh mine again. how could yours be 26 and mine only 19lbs....???

I must have a broken scale.

fw190d9 -> RE: FW190 ID needed. (10/6/2005 6:13 AM)

The slogan belonged to Waldemar Wubke of Jv44 "Galland Circus". The slogan translates as "By Order of the State Railway" .
I have not seen an original photo of this airplane but Wubke was attached to Jv44 and His previous Bf109s all had the same slogan on the side. The origin of the slogan is in a sarcastic joke, the result of his dislpleasure at flying fighter-bomber missions during the battle of Britain. By order of the state railway was the logo found on the sides of boxcars which carried bombs. Seems Wubke was a fighterpilot and bombs were supposed to be carried by boxcars and bombers, not fighters. Wubke's usual mount was Red 3 though, not white 1 as shown on the model and the slogan should be further to the rear and lower. Reference Jerry Crandall's excellent book entitled "Doras of the Galland Circus" here:
http://www.eagle-editions.com
BTW, the red/white stripes underneath were to identify the Jv44 airplanes to their own flak crews who had a bad habit of shooting at anything that flew. Jv44 flew airfield protection for Me262 jets.
Here is a pic of Wubke's usual airplane with Jv44.
