I was thinking, the rules for the biplane class specify a minimum wing area of 1460 sq in, the GP Pitts has an area of 1303 sq in, if the wingspan is increased in 8 in. the plane will comply with the rules, I know that people have instaled up to a 75 cc engine in the stock plane so going up to 80 cc with a light engine and reinforcing it in strategic areas like firewall, landing gear and wing cabanes will be ok, it wont be a 3D capable aerobatic plane but that is the last we want so may be this would be a light low cost alternative.

Any thoughts?

Regards,

Alfredo

i will actually be flying one of the CE2's next season in the Bipe class with a stock Zenoha GT-80 as the rules call for...we made completly different wings for it so it will be more competitive with the others...hope this helps.

Alfredo,

We have looked into using the GP pitts and the USRA has said basically the pitts is not legal( for multiple reasons) but the CEII is a legal airframe. Note that we flew two of them at the Ohio race in august and they were a good low cost airframe and we had fun. we have now replaced the stock wings with new foam wings with an airfoil that is more suited to racing and not loops and rolls. If you are interested I probable have the most current Knowledge on this airframe( note I am not an Expert) I have raced one and I do know the setup for the stock airframe and some good starting points for modifying them to make them turn better.

It sounds like a very good alternative, what I dont remember is if the biplane class specifies an engine or just a max of 80 cc.

I know that your setups are part of your racing knowhow but I will really apreciate anything that you could share.

The rule state that you have to rune any GAS engine 80cc or less. If you are in the area for the final race of the season you should stop by and talk to us.. we will have two of them there. and we will share any Information we have on these aircraft..

Thank you, I would really like to go to the race but I dont think that I could, my second daughter has just been born and as you can imagine anything related with me going out for a weekend will be taken as crime by my wife.
