Status: offline 		I have several engines and mufflers that could really use a good cleaning. I used to use Sunbeam fry pan cleaner, but that product is no longer made. What works good now? I've heard that the currently available engine cleaners don't really work all that well. Have I been misinformed? Any help would be appreciated.

Status: offline 		I read on a newsgroup to use an old crockpot and some antifreeze. Disasemble the entire engine and put contents (minus o-rings) into the pot and heat for 8~9 hours. When done rince with hot water and dry everything with a soft cloth. Then lubricate with oil (didnt say what type, WD-40 or after run should do) Also be ware of YS engines with pumps, dont clean them with the above method.
I havent tried this myself yet but I just recently found a crockpot to use and will soon try it out. Of course DO NOT use the pot again for cooking food!!!!
I used to use a popular engine cleaning chemical (z best) but that stuff would dry up just sitting around and is quite expensive. The crock pot should be cheaper and safer to use....hopefully it works good. I'm going to use it outside to avoid any fuses escaping into the house.

Status: offline 		then take the old one out to the garage and use it for cleaning engines. my crockpot still looks pretty new so I took a black magic marker and wrote "POISON not for food stuffs" on the side.
Once you use antifreeze in it it permeates (sp?) the pot and will leave traces in everything you put in after so dont cook with it after you have cleaned a engine with it .

Status: offline 		Promise her a new one and take the old one. It worked for me. You know how they like new stuff.

I have a ? though about this method. I have cleaned my 2 strokes in the past with this method and it worked great.
I now need to clean my Saito .72 and was concerned about the rubber on the lift rod post on the outside of the engine. Should I remove these?

I would assume so, but would like an experienced opinion. Thanks!

Status: offline 		Seriously though, a new small crock pot cost $15-$19 at Wlamart. It's chump change compared to what we throw at our planes day in and day out.

Don't mess with wife's and go buy yourself one. Or better yet, as suggested, pamper her with a $30 top-of-the-line delux model and take her old one.

Status: offline 		It was developed by David Geirke specifically for removing the brown crud off our aluminum model engines. It's very low odor, I believe non flamable and it works great.

Status: offline 		Does the warm antifreeze bath method remove carbon deposits inside the engine? Does Demon Clean??

Z best requires two to three applications with brushing and still won't achieve Kamlooper's results. I just spent two days cleaning a 4 stroker and a 2 stroker and I'm still at it. Soaking in solvent alcohol per Harry Higley removes varnish but very slowly.

Does anyone use ultrasonic cleaning, and how are the results?
