I'd love to get some floats for my 69" span trainer. Where does everyone get their stuff? I don't think any of the local hobby shops in my area carry any in stock. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks.

Great Planes makes three sets of floats. 20 size, 40 size and 60 size. The 40 size would work on your trainer. You want floats that are 75% of the fuselage length.

Sea Commander, in Canada, makes great floats. Look in some of the magazines for adds. You'll find them more in the spring and summer issues. Check out Sig, as well as the mail order (website) houses.

Get some Gee Bee floats. They are pre-built, simple to install and very tough. Tower has them.

I won a set of 32" GeeBee floats last week in a funfly.
Tower wants $40, I'll take $30, plus shipping.

Hey, thanks for the offer Jim. My fuselage measures 47" from spinner backplate to rudder hinge line. Will 32" floats be okay?

Jim, do you accept paypal? If you do I'll take those floats off your hands. Thanks.

I have been flying floats for over 20 years and by far the best floats I have used are the john sullivan flat bottomed foam core floats. These floats are now sold by RnZ hobbies. The worst floats I have ever used are the geebee plastic floats. They have so much surface adhesion that it is almost imposible to take off unless conditions are perfect.

hello,,,,,,,,,i agree with pitts pilot,,,,,,,,,the gee bee floats are the worst floats on the market..the great planes floats are good ones...there is a guy in my area that cuts custom floats out of foam....all he needs is the weight, length, and wing span....he charges 15.00 per pair plus shipping....all you need to do is sheet them and paint.....thanks pault

I have been flying my Tiger Trainer on Gee Bee floats and it takes off in about 45 to 50 feet. Even with conditions not close to perfect. I think Gee Bees are great. No painting or covering, and they are very durable. Just be sure you have the "step" in line with the cg.

First of all I have tried a lot of floats but for sport flying I have yet to find anything that will work as well as Slocan Floats.
Dave Milton of New Denver BC cuts these out of pink or blue foam and the price is very reasonable. I have been using them for years.

I think I have one of every size he makes

jim casey......the manufacturer of the floats told me he enters the weight, length, and wing span into a computer program that calculates the length, width, depth, and where the step should be on the floats,,,if you need more info on this let me know and i will send you his web address....thanks...pault

Check out http://www.foamcorefloats.com/ They sell a simple to make float kit that has been used for 30 years in this area. Very inexpensive and they work great. Sizes 32" - 34" & 36". Great on LT40 or 60 type trainers and have been put on 1/5 scale J3's as well as a host of other aircraft in the up to 10lb. size

pault,

For pete's sake tell us the name & address of the foam float cutter you're being so coy about!

Cheers,

CR
