Yeah, I would have gotten a Trex too, but the local hobby shop assured me that they would keep parts in stock and support the MX400, so thats what I went with. I cant wait to fly it, its driving me nuts.

Im sure Ill eventually start tricking it out with all sorts of upgrade parts, but I want to fly it stock first and see how it does.

    Guys,

I found a nice website that has information about the Ark 400 which is pretty identical to the MX400
There is some really good info on there.

I am interested in buying the HeliMax MX400 EP Helicopter ARF but don't know which motor will be the best for 3D performance the

Heli-Max Brushless Motor HMXG1001 6 Pole Brushless Motor

    OR THE

    Heli-Max Brushless Motor HMXG1002 12 Pole Outrunner

Please explain what the difference between the two is.

The last question will the Futaba S3108 servo fit or is the S3107 Futaba servo better match for the MX400

    Ok.....here's the scoop

Helimax is recommending the Ultrafly Model C/13/33kV Outrunner Brushless Motor right now. It runs about $70 bucks

The Futaba S3108 servos will not fit. You'd have to do some trimming to get them to fit.
Here's the list of the servos that will fit.

    E-flite S75's
    Futaba S3103's
    Futaba S3107's
Bluebird BMS-306BB (although I wouldnt fly mine on these. Ok for airplanes but dont center well enough for a heli)

Helimax says that they should be under 10G each, put out at least .12 sec/60deg or less.

    Nope,

Its gonna be a while. Ive still got to buy the gyro, motor, esc, reciever and lipo. Dont have the money for it right now. As soon as I get it, Ill post all the install stuff and opinions about how it flies.

Im hiking the southern quarter of the Appalachian Trail in the second week in November (one of my other hobbies), so I'm hoping I can get started on things once I get back.

what is your start and stop point? i live very close to the app trail. it is a pretty cool trail to hike, especially this time of year. nice cool nights, and good time for campfires (if they are allowed).

    Jet jaguar,

Ill be leading a trip of 3 up from amicalola falls up the southern terminus to springer mt. Camp on springer first night then evenually work our way up through woody gap. Dont know how far we will get. Got one experienced hiker and one newb.
Im hoping we will make it before first snowfall. Any new trail info you have would be greatly appreciated. Did they ever get rid of that bear at Black Mountain Gap that kept snagging food bags?

Last year I hit Bear Hair and the Coosa Backcountry(insane trail), Dukes Creek falls, and Anna Ruby with another group of about 15. 30 at night and 50 in the day. Its gonna be considerably colder this time.
Stone Mt about 3 years ago.
Hit Hogpen Gap and Smith Creek, about 8 years ago.
