I would prefer the 3/16th strut also.

They are 3/16" but how long would you like them?

Length is a bit tougher of a question. I would think the longer the strut, the more likely it is to bend the strut out of shape on rough landings, but I don't have enough experience to suggest a length. I would most likely end up using robostruts, or some other brand of shock strut. I think it would be nice if 3/16" stubs were included in addition to the wire struts.

Another alternative for very high quality mechanical retracts is available from www.einziehfahrwerk.de
There are several sizes available as well as different retract geometries. Here is a link for the 18 lbs ones, link. The end stops are fully adjustable for zero play and they are very strong.
I normally fly off grass fields and have had no problems whatsoever.
The really nice thing is that custom legs, be it oleos or piano wire, are available at very reasonable prices.

MinnFlyer,

I wonder if your new gear would work on the new 81" H9 P-47 that's soon to hit the streets. Speculation is that their included retractable gear is pretty beefy but I still like your model.

Mirwin, That may be in their upper range, but I don't think I would hesitate to at least TRY them.

But I would probably bore out the 3/16" strut hole to accept a 1/4" strut

Their is enough meat on the pivot, If their is enough interest I can bore them for a 1/4" wire for those who want them.

seems to me you would want to allow for a long wire and let the consumer have the ability to trim as needed. not that I know how much extra would be appropriate.

A long wire is included for the customer to cut..... the struts come 9" long.

Well then!!! Seems to me they should get up off their wallets and buy some of your retracts. What have they to lose?

Good luck with your product!

One of the things I like to point out is that they are not made of 2 extruded "L" brackets like many, but they are machined from solid, Aircraft-Grade aluminum stock.

You have my attention on these retracts. When will a nose gear be in the works? Also... can you provide some dimensions (Height, width, spacing of holes, depth, weight, etc....)
