Hey, people. Hope its going well for everyone. I between Ann Arbor and Detroit Michigan. We have a couple of local hobby shops near me that carry what I consider garbage fuels. I ask about the possibility of getting of getting even different blends of the brand they do carry and I get the you don't know shinola look. The one thing I have noticed since getting back into the hobby a few months ago is a complete lack of customer service at my LHSs. Sorry for the rant but the question I have is simple. Does anyone want my fuel business? I'm going to have to mail order my fuel but I really do not want to pay 31 dollars for 4 quarts if I can avoid it. Any ideas would be great. I used to burn Powermaster or Byrons but cant seem to find 'em around me anymore. I e-mailed SnW but I don't think from what was said in the reply that they sell direct anymore and my local is deffinately not gonna help any with this situation! From what I read here and around I'd like to get my hands on some Wildcat, Powermaster, SnW or Coopers. BTW I find it funny that you have to pay a hazmat fee on model fuels but I can order 500 gallons of perfume without payin any...<<There both alcohol.

S&W Fuels will most certainly sell directly to you, and if you purchase the fuel in quart bottles...even if you bought 10,000 of them...you avoid the hazmat fees altogether.

Every body that uses LHS are usally in a hurry. Probably if you are willing to pay up front and buy 4 gallons at a time and give the LHS some time to order in the fuel you could get what you want. Without all the shipping charges. If you have a Hobbytown in your area and want some Wildcat fuel .There private Hobbytown brand is Wildcat fuel.

Magnum fuel sells direct. I've used almost 3 cases of their 10% "Premium Sport Fuel" and have been very happy with it.
http://www.magnumfuels.com/products.htm
Our club members got together and did a big purchase (around 40 cases) and we got a price break from what was posted on the web page.

Thanks people! Hey speed I am never in a hurry in a hobby shop just ask my wife ; ). I have just found that if you want what they don't have in my area of the planet that without fail the" you don't know whats best for you attitude comes out". I understand that a customer who wants something thats not on the floor is a pain sometimes and that the stock cost money but I am one person who wont put up with any lies, attitudes or anything else that's rude from anyone I am giving my cash to. I don't care if they are the only game in town even! Charge me extra for the service if you must. I can accept that. I won't tolerate any form of what I consider abuse. The problem as I have found after posting my first rant is that the LHSs near me are not run by the owners anymore, hence the Walmart service. Sorry for the rants. Thanks for your help though!

Well, you could do what I do, make a trip to the St. Louis MO area from Austin TX in each fall and buy however many cases of Sig fuel I want for the coming year.

I've gotten even luckier. I finally found someone relatively nearby who will get me any fuel I want. Hell they even stock Wildcat and Powermaster! When I called them I asked about what fuels they carried and they told me then when I asked about a certain mix the very nice lady on the other end actually told me she would go see what they had left! When I told her thanks she said "thats what I'm here for honey". Got to love the old fashioned service and politeness. OHHH YEAAAHHH! I'm going in the morning to buy them out of their Wildcat premium plus 15%! Mutually assured gratification!

Magnum fuel seems a little HIGH PRICED. Arn't you in RICH'S BREW COUNTRY? He seems the best priced on the planet.

When we did the bulk purchase in 2003 the Magnum 10% cost me $9.35 per gallon, no sales tax, shipping included.

You are correct; I can buy Ritch's Brew, or almost any brand, locally for less than Magnum's current pricing.

Magnum's prices include shipping and hazmat fees. The original post was looking for a mail order source and this was the one I knew of that actually posted "to the door" prices online.

Luckily he has found a good local source.

When I run out of the $9.35 fuel I will definitely be heading for Mike's Hobby Shop in Carrollton to pick up some Ritch's Brew. I think he charges $8.95 or $9.95 for 10%, which comes to about $9.75 or $10.75 with tax.

Sounds like he called up the taylor rider's hobby shop. And got the nice lady on the phone. If it was'nt try the Taylor rider's it is a different franchise than the hardware store and the other store on the other side of 275.

You can do what I do, take a trip to the Toledo show in April. There are several fuel dealers that show up. Bring friends along as hauling 4 gallons of fuel all the way to the parking ramp gets heavy quickly! Byron's and Ritches are two of the dealers that make the show every year.
I wish that Brian Cooper didn't move away as he wasn't too far from where I live. If I would have known that he was moving, I would have stocked up ahead of time!

Ron,
If you want to run Coopers Boat fuel, just see Bob Kensill down in Ft Wayne at Phils hobby shop, they carry the Cooper's boat fuels.

I would but Bob and I aren't seeing eye-to-eye right now. A long story but two brothers started a bunch of trouble between us with lies. Bob's too mad at me right now to listen. It's too bad because Bob and I used to get along pretty well before these kids started causing the rift.

I saw Brian at a local R/C swap meet shortly before he moved and didn't tell me at the time that he was getting out of town.

I also pick my fuel up at the Toledo Show.
Last year PowerMaster, Byron, and Riche's Brew were there. Maybe others !

I know I certainly don't take anything from any retailers either, however don't construe that as meaning I walk in rude, or chew out people who are not reponsible for something. I don't. But if something is not right, I will say what's on my mind and walk out of a store in a heartbeat if I get any attitude, and more people should do the same. Feedback is what gets problems fixed. Okay, if a guy's having a bad day and is obviously not very happy and is just struggling through the day and doesn't mean you any ill will, well that's just human. But if you get crappy or rude service, tell them, or tell someone. If the person is not the manager or owner, then find who is and let them know, or phone them. Too bad for the rude sales clerk IMHO. My wife got upset at me a couple of times when I vented off in a store, but she's toughening up now after having received the runaround at a few places.

I carry to this day the memory of a trivial but relevant event, going back to an LHS in the small town near where I lived somewhere in my teens. I have always been a small engine fan, and I needed some higher nitro fuel for .010's and .020's. The store carried a line of now-defunct fuels that were made in 5%-50%. The store had nothing in stock from 15-35%, so I picked up a quart can of 15% and a quart can of 50%. Bingo, problem solved, 2 quarts of 32.5%! The guy asked what I was using the 50% for, and I told him I was going to mix them to make some higher nitro fuel for my small engines. He laughed, then yelled to his buddy somewhere else in the store, "hey ----, this guy's gonna mix his own fuel!" "Yeah right" or something similar said the buddy. And it was meant entirely sarcastically . In those days I was not as outspoken, so I didn't rip a strip off them as I certainly would now. But wish I did [doggone hindsight]. Anyhow, that was the last time I ever went in there. I guess justice was served, as they went out of business some time later.

Having worked on the manufacturer's side of the table in the hobby industry since the late 1980's, I can say there are a lot of nice, intelligent, and reasonable customers out there. And providing good products and service to them is a pleasure. But know what? There are some total dicks out there too! Really! (surprise..)
