I think FSA needs a theme song where we all can sing along right before our meetings and maybe even a flag with our own colors. What do ya think guys lets take a vote on it. I know I know it's raining and theres nothing to do. I am already watching epoxy dry, I am so damm bored I have builded ca stalagmites like we use to do with silly sand...LMAO

OK, here are some suggestions (subset of a much larger list):

1. At Lunch Time, Sit In Your Parked Car With Sunglasses on and point a Hair Dryer At Passing Cars. See If They Slow Down.

2. Page Yourself Over The Intercom. Don't Disguise Your Voice.

3. Every Time Someone Asks You To Do Something, Ask If They Want Fries with That.

4. Put Your Garbage Can On Your Desk And Label It "In."

5. Put Decaf In The Coffee Maker For 3 Weeks. Once Everyone Has Gotten Over Their Caffeine Addictions, Switch To Espresso.

6. In The Memo Field Of All Your Checks, Write "For Sexual Favors"

7. Finish all Your Sentences With "In Accordance With The Prophecy."

8 don't use any punctuation

9. As Often As Possible, Skip Rather Than Walk.

10. Specify That Your Drive-through Order Is "To Go."

11. Sing Along At The Opera.

12. Go To A Poetry Recital And Ask Why The Poems Don't Rhyme

13. Put Mosquito Netting Around Your Work Area And Play Tropical Sounds all day.

14. When The Money Comes Out The ATM, Scream "I Won! I Won!"

15. When Leaving The Zoo, Start Running Towards The Parking Lot, Yelling "Run For Your Lives, They're Loose!!"

16. Tell Your Children Over Dinner. "Due To The Economy, We Are Going To Have To Let One Of You Go."

Lee, what's going on? It's good to hear from the old crew. I miss all the drama! As for me, I've been itching to fly so badly. No flying here, period. Way tooo cold and windy, even hard to walk most of the time. They said it gets better during Summer, so I'm looking forward for that. Sure wish I'm back there flying with you guys.

I've been wondering...does the field have a street number? We could get pizza and stuff delivered there (of course, when the domino's guy goes looking for a house and sees a .60 Mustang in Miss America trim crash into a 33% Extra, he'll probably think he's just seeing things and eat the pizza himself. And no, this hasn't happened yet, but I gave the runway a good trim with the prop last week with my 4 lawn mower landings). Man, o man, I'm bored. Bored, bored, bored, and it's supposed to rain on Saturday--no flying for me tomorrow. Guess I'll go bug my little brother now. JL out.

See what happens when you don't come to meetings .

I posted the address to the web site... 6050 I think. Does that
mean you are buying the Pizza next time you come out?

BTW - Don't you have that purple plane in the picture Jake?

Wow, as a heli pilot at FSA, I'm starting to feel like a red-headed stepchild (no offense to any person viewing this thread who IS a red-headed stepchild)

It seems like we are really dealing with two issues here. The first being a rogue pilot and the second being the coexistance of fixed and rotary winged aircraft on the airfield. Can we please separate the two so the rules don't penalize those heli pilots who want to play nice?

As far as the rogue pilot goes, don't try to label him as only a wild heli pilot. Because a couple weeks ago I let him fly my P-47 and he proceeded to fly the snot out of it, breaking a lot of the same rules as when he flys helis. And if the person of whom I speak is reading this, I think you're a great guy but you are making people uncomfortable. Your piloting abilities are terrific but don't overcomensate by taking risks with other's saftey. Those type of moves are just as cool on the other side of the runway.

I personally feel that fixed and rotary winged aircraft don't occupy close airspace well. Even just doing circuits with helis is difficult to avoid competetion for the same airspace. The ways helis move is unfamiliar enough to fixed wing pilots so that puts most of the onus on the heli pilot. And when the heli pilot has supreme confidence in the heli (however misplaced that may be) and flys like he just stole the heli, fixed wing pilots get nervous.

One of the biggest problems with flying helis on the same field as fixed wing aircraft is that most heli pilots like to fly close in. The helis I fly are electric and at most half the size of glow helis. So it's practically impossible for me to hover on the far side of the runway. It's just too small to see effectively at that distance. I'm sure even the pilots of larger helis will say this as well.

What would it take to get a heli 3D practice area created on the other side of the trailer? If oriented carfeully, I think there's enough area there for one or two helis to operate safely without impinging on the runway area. The trees should offer adequate restraint for a heli from straying over Van Dusen.

I'm sure enough volunteers amongst the heli pilots could be had to prepare the area needed. The material for the pilot boxes and spectator fence shouldn't be too expensive.

Anyone else think this is a good idea?

And when heli's are not around, perhaps this could be used for small electric F/W as well, which are currently also relatively stationary targets for the big boys..... ??

Thunder, hate to steal your thunder, but the heli rules apply to all helis. Those little electrics can cut some one up just as fast. If you cannot see it, it may be a park bird only then. You have to ask, "Is it fair to allow an electric hover and operate right in front of the boxes and not a 60 size slimer heli ?" To try and set rules for each individual airplane or heli is impossible. Our proud heli pilot put one in the pits one afternoon and almost hit bwildered as he was working on his plane. Had it done so, he would have been on his way to the hospital. The particular heli had a powerful brushless and carbon knives.

The only problem with a heli fly area is :

A) Dealing with channel control
B) Is there enough area ?

If you go out to DCRC, it's kind of nerve wracking to fly F/W with some guy doing radical 3D with a Heli behind you. Here again, the main attention at FSA is on the main runway, that goes for flyers and the general public. If a heli breaks and is flinging around out of control and you're not looking behind you, that could get ugly......one of the reasons we do not want forward flight at the hover area. And for the heli pilot, what if a plane gets out and heads at your back while flying ?
