Hi...

I am about to power a GP Little Toni... I don't want the Airplane to be a ballestic rocket but I want it to be fast.

The two engine choices on my list are the...

Sport JETT .65-.76 with a Turbo Jett Muffler...

Or

SuperTigre G-90 with either Turbo Jett or Jett Stream Muffer.

I have no idea what the performance difference between the two will be... All conditions remaining the same... and was wondering if you would give me a bit of a comparison.

I don't expect you to comment on anything other that direct performance comparisons. (i.e. don't get in trouble with ST)

The thing being is that I know about what to expect from the SuperTigre but have no idea what kind of performance increase you get with the Jett engine...

Cheers

Matt

Hi Matt....

Thanks for writing...

Nothing at all wrong with the ST90 !! Good engine. Likes bigger props, but can be set up nicely for speed too. Look up Cyclic Hard Over in the extreme speed and ARF forums - ask about his Tiger setup in his GP Shoestring. I know he has been happy with that.

The Jett SJ-90L is the engien you would want to use in the Toni. The SJ65 doe not really exist anymore, and the SJ76 is basically the same price as the SJ-90L. They are all the same crankcase/size, so that is not a factor.

There are some photos down in this forum if you wish to see how they are installed.

Dub now offers a combination known as the SJ-90LX-T - which is the higher-output 90LX engine, configured especially for the Toni.

The standard SJ-90L is available for the Toni including the special set of muffler extensions (the Toni configuration). This setup with a 12x8 or 12x9 up front is hard to beat. Quick, very reliable, and the most user friendly engine you will ever see.

The SJ-90L on a 12x6 will turn 14,500 in standard configuration, and with the extensions drops to about 13,800 rpm... but it turns over 13,500 with a 12x8 set up this way

The ST90 is a bit lower timed, likes larger props. With a jett-stream or turbo-jett and a 13x6 or 13x8, you will see something around 11,000-12,000 rpm. Not too bad

I believe Jett can provide this same extension and jett-stream setup for use with the Tiger 90 engine. The bolt spacing for the muffler is the same, and the bolt sizes are different.

As for a performance comparison, the SJ-90L is a bit more power than the ST90. However, bolting on either the Jett-Stream or Turbo-Jett to the ST90 will get you some very decent performance - not all that far short of the Jett 90 than you might imagine.

I had two folks out there who were attempting to do the turbo-jett installation in a Toni, but I never heard back. I do know of two that have a Turbo-Jett flying in the Shoestring - one with an OS91FX and the other wtih the ST90. Both were quite happy - both flying with 13x8 props.

I hope this is helpful

Bob
