I like the way that Yak looks like! It might just be my next project for the next summer flying season.

Four rudder servos? Two in the tail section and two pull-pull's? I don't understand ...

That is weird. It really only needs one on the rudder.

I am planning to buy this Yak. I would like to start buying servos, however, since this yak will be my first big airplane, I am not sure how strong of servos do I really need.

I am planning to put Hitec 5925MG on ailerons, elevator and rudder. These digital servos develop (advertised) 128 oz. in. of torque at 6 volts. Is that enough torque for this airplane?

I am planning to fly IMAC and 3D stuff.

Hadjuk, I would recomend a Hitec 5955 TG on the rudder if you want to do serious 3D. Your 5925's should work well everywhere else. Good day, from Henderson, Tx.

Great Planes did this same "servo strategy" on their Ultimate. Goldberg has done the same thing on their 77" Yak. I think the ARF makers are wanting us to re-kit the airplanes by suggesting that we employ more servos with lower torque to consume battery power faster, add complexity and failure points/modes, and permit the shoestring flyer to be able to say he "had" one of the Giant Scale Yaks....

Seriously - using MULTIPLE servos, particularly of lower torque value, just doesn't make ANY sense to me at all. I would use the Hitec 5945's, if you can get them. Plenty of torque, coreless, digital, very precise. Or buy the JR equivalent (8411's or 8611's) or the Futaba equivalents (have NO clue, as I don't use brand F).

Definitely - MANY people share this simple "rule of thumb"....Your servos should cost about as much as the bare airframe. Or put another way - buy the BEST that you can afford, just like you pay for your airborne battery, and your Rx.... those are three areas where it just is NOT smart in the long run to "go cheap"

    Hi Torqmeister,

Thanks a lot! I am in Longview, Tx and it rains here at the moment.
I assume you meant one 5955TG not two for the rudder setup?

    Regards,

    Hi Aerobob,

I hope you have a lot of fun with your Goldberg Yak 54 -77”. I hope I will have as much with my Great Planes Yak.

I was thinking 5925MG because they appear to be the fastest digital (relatively) high torque Hitec servos. I am thinking to go with 5925MG on ailerons and elevators, and maybe, as Torqmeister suggested, with a single 5955TG for the rudder setup.

    Hajduk,
Go with the JR DS 8611A sarvo 240 in/oz. @ 4.8v metal gear. You'll only need one for each surface and you could easily put them into a larger plane in the future. Towwer is showing the Yak for $399.99 available late Feb. Also has a weight range of 12.5-15.5lbs. Not exactly a light weight. My 27% Edge 540T with a Brison 3.2 is 16 lbs. 12.5 lbs.sounds good but 15.5? It does look like a nice plane though.
Remember, you can always thorttle back.

I was looking at the weight of Great Planes (GP) Yak and from what I could see is not much heavier (if any) then the other Yaks on the market. Now, I am not an expert flyer and don’t know much about the wing loading. I wonder how GP Yak wing loading compares to other similar size Yaks?

1)I think the BME55 will be the motor for this size plane.(when it comes out)

    2) It does not look like this plane has removable horizontal stabs?

    3) It does not look like this plane has air foiled tail feathers?

4)The hardware in the picture looks sub standard for this size plane.

With 3 more servos on the rudder than needed that equals around 6 oz. of dead weight. I wonder if it will even balance without all of that weight?

Wow. This is gettin' REALLY funky/weird.... more cabling and pushrods than a Wright Flyer....and that same REALLY funky tailwheel they landed on for the Ultimate (mushy, mushy). Maybe the stabs mount like the Wagstaff extra, with screws out near the ends of the tube?

We need to see more pics.... somebody out there has to know more....
