I was hoping for a same weight on GP yak as GP Cap but it seems bare weight is 1.5lb heavier. I don't intend to hijack the thread but you might want look at the GP cap. My DA50 with slimline (10.5oz) came in at 13.25lb.
I ordered titanium 10-32 prop bolts and stock da50 muffler, 1/4-20 aluminum screws for engine mount to bring the weight down to below 12.75lb.

    It already flies super light.

At any rate, I was planning on purchasing the yak but 8.9lb bare without engine mount, cowl ring seem heavy to me.

Below link is the maiden of GP Cap 232.

Some of the weight savings for Gas users:

    3cell 640mah lipo + 2amp 6v switching regulator @ 2.3oz ( capable of 6+ 15min flights )
    3cell 1500mah lipo + 3.5amp 6v switching regulator @ 4.5oz <-- will switch to 910mah to save another 1.5oz
stock foam wheels are used at 2oz/pair
1 hitec 5955 servo in the tail for rudder
16oz dubro fuel tank instead of stock for 1.5oz savings.
    no wheel pants
FG spinner instead of stock 3.5oz savings.

Can someone else double check the 8.9lb bare weight? I just can't believe much shorter fused yak weigh 1.5lb more than the cap.

    Thanks
    Barry

    Barry;

There is a hobby shop at Cole Road and Ustick. It is in a small shopping Mal there. I go to our LHS in Ontario, Oregon. Just a reaL SMALL place. They get me stuff at same price as tower.

I think that puts it at about one pound more than the H9 Extra 260 and about the same weight as the bigger QQ or EF Yak.

EF might be lighter, however, it is just not available. QQ 85” Yak weighs 16-17lbs and costs $739.95 (all white is $599.00 ??). My GP Yak ($359.00 delivered) is 81” and will weigh maximum of 15 lbs. I am confused? How’s that the same weight as larger QQ Yak? Unless I got my numbers wrong?

Most will claim that the QQ yak is the same weight and the E.F.--Not sure this is true. Yes, these birds do cost more.

Lee, My EF Yak came in at 15 pounds 4 OZ dry, Basically everything is the same except im using the stock muffler which if I remember correctly is about 5 oz liter and one less regulator, and a 3 1/4 inch spinnera nd no choke servo, Looks like the weight should be identical with the simular equip.

    Question, upright elevator..... wing rock?

where is your recieve battery, and where is your CG ?

Wow, that is light! Stupid question....does the cap have a 1 piece wing?

First of all, I want to apologize for going off subject!

    STG:

It is one piece wing. For 78" wing, it REALLY is not bad at all. I am actually enjoying ( again back to glow days ) speedy assembly/disassembly at the field as it literally put together in a min or two.

I just received DA50 stock muffler and weighed in at 5oz with screws. That is 5.5oz savings just swapping.
I flew total of 8 16min flights and always had 7-8oz of fuel left in 16oz tank. I am considering going to 12oz as that is all is needed on this stupid light massive powered (for 13lb airplane) bird.

I like it so much too much (as my son would say) that I was going to buy another and put 10oz lighter zdz 40 re (rear exhaust) engine. But, I was also considering the sibling Yak 54. It is very disapointing to hear the weight. Can anyone double check the bare frame with all hardware weight?

BTW, the power is immence on 13.25lb bird. From hover, jerking the power translates to plane jumping up and it goes out of sight in seconds even with low pitched 22x8 prop.

How would a Brison 2.4 be for this plane? I think it would be an ideal gasser match???

It looks like it will be fine. If I had to buy a 40cc though, I would spend $80 more and get zdz 40 re at $525 and also get 20% more thrust at 25lb. But, if I already had a brison, I would not hesitate to use it. People spend $60 on a cf gear to save 3-5oz on this size bird. It might be worth the $80 to get 6oz saving over brison and get 4-5lb more thrust as a freebee. The muffler would weight less for pitts style too as it does not need the wrap around part.

If I had to choose, I would go with bme55 or zdz40re now that I have one working with DA50 but bem55 is not available and not sure how much to trust on customer service too. How is zdz service? Anyone?

Sorry, not sure where I herd this so I am not sure it is 100% true (seen it posted somewhere ), but I herd that ZDZ is coming out with a 40 soon that it 6 or 8 oz less then the current motor. I think it is geared at the pattern guys so I am not sure how $ it would be.

It is already out and selling. The price is $525 same as side exhaust version but 1/2lb lighter than se. The muffler for it is cheaper at $69 as it is much simpler to make than wrap around.

    It will make my cap 232 a 12.25 - 12.5lb bird with 25lb thrust.

I just flew today and for test i jammed my aileron as soon as it took off and went vertical. It did 20+ rolls while climbing until it became a speck.
Most other times that much power is simply useless.

Yeah, i already have a 2.4 Brison sitting here, i just noticed it is actually lighter than the zdz..... so i figured the give of power will come back in the reduction of weight. What do you think? would'nt you say it's a close match? ZDZ vs Brison 2.4?
