Should work just fine, I have a 50 cc that fits well. As long as the firewall has the room you should be ok. A little Loc-tight is advised !

The longer the stand off, the more of a lever moment produced by engine torque.

Since the base of the standoff is relatively small, this applies more force to the underlying wood at the point of contact, which is why a box or other mechanism to increase the contact surface area is preferable.

At worst you NEED to do something to distribute the load... I will often put Fender Washers on both sides of the firewall to spread the load in lieu of a box..

SCOTT:

Just be a bit concerned about weight distribution. With the servos located per the manual, and a DLE 30 up front, I put both batteries and the ignition system in the front hatch and still had to add over a pound of weight. If I had it to do over, I would build a box to extend the front out about 2 inches and then use the DLE standoffs and mount the engine.

I will say that even pulling that extra weight the DLE 30 performs great.

Larry

I added a pound myself, but the motor pulled it.

Ok so there may be changes in the makeing, im gonna set the dle 30 aside for my 1/4 scale space walker becouse the income tax ck came in today and the wife said I can have some play money so with that said im gonna buy me the dle 35 for the GUS, but I do have a question about the stand offs. My nabour is a machinest and ive thought about having him to build me some custom stand offs that would be an inch or two longer than the originals, would that be wise? I also would like to know about the life batterys you guys are useing too, basiclly where and how to use them please.

Scott,

I was thinking about the same thing, I am worried that the vibration would be worse with longer stand offs. I will be running 2 A123 packs to my RX with 2 switches and a 4.8 volt pack for the ignition with it's own switch. I bought my A123 packs from Taildraggerrc. Good prices and great customer service. I do not want to mount my batteries in the front hatch because you have to get to them to charge them and that would be a pain in the front hatch. Bill

Bill, why don't you use a charging jack port on the the outside of the airplane and put your A123 batteries in the front compartment?

Bill where did you get your A123's? Which exact battery did you get? I'm new to it too and want to look into it and would like to know a little bit of what I'm looking at, also do you have to have a regulator with them? Also how are you hooking up 2 battery's to the ex with out frying it?

This is a link to the packs I have, http://www.taildraggerrc.com/index.html I have the 2300 mAh packs. You will not fry any thing if you run 2 packs to you RX, you need room to plug them in but if your packs are 6.6 volts that is the power you have not twice that. If one battery or switch fails you still a the second one. Cheap insurance when you look at the time and money we have in the bigger planes. Bill

You need a charger that will charge A123/Life batteries, it is different from, lipo. I bought the conbo pack from him, 2 pack and charger. Bill

Hey guys first off u only need to balance a123 every 10 chargers or so. Some people say only once in a great while. Been using 123 for a while now and dont balance very often. Also u can get 123 with a servo connection so u dont have to worry about deans. I buy my 123 cells through radical rc. Been very happy. Just thought I would put my too cents in.

For a bit more "umph" to my LiFe ( A123 ) packs I've been using these:

Click me!

That way I do not have to worry about current drain at all.

Hopefully you are using a regulator with that battery setup? If not, you are going to burn out your servos unless they are rated to run at 9 plus volts.

For some reason I keep thinking if you connect 2-6.6 packs up to a rx your gonna get 13.2 volts to the rx and there for burn it up. I've never done it and am just a little weary of it. Sure would like to see a pic or two of some of your setup, a video would be great too if that could be done. In fact could I get a few different guys to post up pics of what you have and how it's all laid out? Thanks guys.

Ok I've got it now, or so I think I do. If you hook up 2 -6.6 packs that are 2300MAH you are just doubling the MAH to 4600 MAH and keeping the same 6.6 volts. Is this right?

YES! You are 100% correct. You will not have any issues setting it up like that.

I have the Giant Stick with 3/4 in standoffs to allow the G38 to clear the trike gear. Very stable and fun to fly.

Ok! So not many people get to build a 2nd GUS right after building the first one but Im getting to do such a thing after my spectackular maiden flight and crash! This one is going to be so much differant than the first as Im going in such a differant direction as I did on the first one.First off Im using a doulble redundasy battery back up, also using a DLE 35 vrs the OS 1.60 I had on the other one. I used an idea I seen on this very thread to paint the firewall black with luster coat, I really liked the looks of it and decided to copy it, cant remember who it was that I copyed but thank you for the idea. Follow along for the next week or two as I put this together AGAIN, Ive got some bad ass flame decals being made up for it right now to make mine just a little differant from all the rest thats out there. Heres the dual batterys I went with, there rather large and heavy I think but I think I need that extra weight any ways and Ill be able to fly for a while befor needing a recharge.

Ok so the progress has been slower than I planed due to other toys breaking and needing repairs, but I have managed to get some work done. I have the wings just about finished and have added a nice touch to the fuse sides, I was gonna wait to show it off but its really bothering me to not show it now so here it is, wh at do you guys think? Its a matching left and right side.

Good choice on the batteries... you'll be able to fly for quite a while.

Nice graphics too. Were these something you made or were they originally for some other purpose?

I had them made just for this plane, I seen another plane on this post that inspired me, since im building my 2nd GUS im gonna go and build it the way I wished I built my first one. Im taking a lot of notes and visuals of what others had done and adding what I like to mine. Im thinking of having a peice made and cut to go ontop of the fuse once finished, ive got to decide were to place my switches first.I like my switches on top when possible.
