Status: offline 		That would be unreal. I have a ZDZ-80 blackhead that I almost put on mine but went with the lightned up G-62 with C&H Ign. and a bigger carb. Does about all I need!! Now if I could just find some carbon fiber landing gear for it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hooker53

Status: offline 		I just orderedone of these. Tower has them on sale for 350.00 bucks I just couldn't pass it up. I will be doing a lot of weight reduction as I want to fly this with a DL-50. The Yak should be here sometime late this week.

Status: offline 		I just bought a new one to replace the one I crashed back in the Spring. Looks like Lanier has beefed up the landing gear block from the early ones. Also the rotation pins in the wings appear to be well glued on this one. I'm going to build this one identical to the last one except I'll only have a single A123 battery for radio and another small A123 for the ignition, and I'll be flying this one on 2.4 so I don't expect to have another radio shoot down like the last one.

Status: online 		THis yak has Ultracote covering.... The 94" has chinacote...

This yak is really a 70-80cc size plane.... nO question about it.....
The 94" is little bigger but not by much.......

Just look a a coparable 50cc plane (like the QQ 50cc ) the fuse is sooo thin compared to this plane...
The only plane that compares to this one in size is the EF yak!.... Which is amazing and big..... And somehow, they were able to keep
it even lighter than his one....

Just look at the comparison of picts!!

I know most have heard this one before, but it is a shame that this plane is being discont. and that it had been mismarketed...

I have a canopy from the 50cc yak left over, I am going to see if it fits the 94" yak!.... Just for size coparison!...

I am aware that they had some Cheap NON-aircraft grade plywood in the gear bed....But that can be remideed....

Status: offline 		do not gamble, this airplanes need a 100cc no less do not use a DA85 the vibration is big, lots of power with big price tag but lots of vibrations. The ticket with this lanier 33% is a 100CC ZDZ, DA or DL you can go wrong. You will be the king of the field.

Status: offline 		I finally got mine all put together and flown. I went with a DL-50 and lightened my plane up where I could. I came out just over 17.5lbs and it flies great. It does have some coupling in KE flight, but I think I can get that mixed out. The ailerons on this plane are very effective and it 3D's very well. It also floats on landing and is a big baby in the air. It's bigger than most 87" yaks, but does really well on the DL-50 I have even though I don't have a gallon through it yet.

Well I know this post is 2 1/2 years old but I'm very courious to find out if you ever went this route or not. The reason I ask is I just picked up one of these (yak's) fully built for a song ($200). I know the guy who had it before and he had a DA-85 in it and said it flew great with this combo. I dont see any of the lightening mods and it appears he had the landing gear block issue because it has been replaced.
Now my interest in this post in particular is that this past weekend, I came across a BME 100 for next to nothing ($50). I figure the BME weighs about the same as the DA-85 and has approximately the same power if not a little less but, being a boxer, should be much smoother. I've trial fitted it and it fits....barely. I may have to relieve the cowl where the spark plugs are but we will see.
Who knows......it may turn out being a lead sled as I crank the wing loading up but I gotta try it. I did almost the same thing on my CG 77" Edge with a 3MM TOC 53 and it turned out to be my favoritest airplane in the whole fleet. Uplines are into space and it tames right down for the low stuff and landings.........like they say.....bigger is better!

Status: offline 		I don't understand, why you would do that other than the 50.00 motor? Mine has a DL 50 on it, and you can see in the pic, TR'ing it down on the deck, with plenty of power. Light airplanes fly way better than heavy ones.... I'd sell that motor and get you a good 50 for it, or keep that motor for a more appropriately size plane.

Status: offline 		I actually flew mine again tonight.. good flying plane, does everything really well. The only problem with mine is the coupling in knife edge, and I still haven't messed with mixing it out.

I just finished building mine after 16months....... life has been real busy.

I have mine powered with a G-62 with the original Magneto on it, and a Miller belt drive to start it.

I decided to use Extreme power systems 2.4 ghz for a receiver, and use my JR 9303 with the conversion module.

I have added a baffle to orce the air round the cylinder to keep it cool. after all it is still over 106 here.....

If everything goes well, we maiden her on saturday morning.

I can you this, my plane was out of the second generation, as I went to do all of the mods ad noticed that the landing gear box was solid.

I also looked at lightening the tail feathers and decided to wait until I got it balanced without modifying. Glad I did. the motor is heavy enough that I actually had to modify the motor box and take out a 1" x 1" 45 degree bevel at the bottom of the box to clear the inverted Pitts muffler I put on the motor. I originally had standoffs that were 2" long and moved the motor way forward. (looked like the stock actual aircraft with the spinner out that far. but it would not balance. so i moved it back to a 1/4" standoff. and it is very close to balancing. just have to set the battery pack in the rear of the fuze and let it fly.

I will take some pics at the field saturday and get them posted..

This is an old quote, but no one responded.

There were two similar series of airplanes from Lanier, one was a 50-80cc and the other was a 100cc, which was the 33% version. The one this thread deals with is the 87" version, (about 30% scale). For the 30% version, an 85cc engine would be a very powerful combination and I would probably recommend it. A 50cc can do great things here as well. It was a versatile airframe in that respect.

The DA 85 and 3W 85 are not really that big on vibration. Some of it depends on the condition of the engine, the prop and spinner, etc. My 3W85 started to shake quite a bit and I sent it in for service. It turns out there was a lot of carbon build-up inside the cylinder which made it a lot less smooth than it used to be.

we get to the field at 6:00am to get started.

Bout 7:30 it's time to fly

It took about 15 mins to get the motor running right (it's been a year since she last flew anything.)

She is purring like a kitten, and growls like a lion when at full throttle.. So I am READY !!!!!!!!

Ok, control surfaces check:

Rudder.....Left is left, right is right

Elevator: Up is Up, down is down.

Ailerons: Left is left, right is right.........

Let's go !!!

Taxi out to the runway, and taxi around to get used to the way she rolls on the ground.

Let's Go !!!!!

Move about 100 downwind on the runway:

Add power keeping a little pressure on the elevator to keep the tail wheel glued......

moving past half throttle, she's really going now !!!!

ease back on the right stick, the nose comes up, there is a bit of left roll..

OK, add some right aileron, (she's about 2 feet off the deck and climbing)

well, she goes more left, add RIGHT Aileron, still rolling left.

I SAID RIGHT AILERON !!!!!!!!!!

........

SPLAT.....
One is the only number I dont like when it comes to planes.

that is 16 months of waiting lost in about 5 seconds of air time.....

Anyone got a Lanier Yak 54 87" for sale that's NIB?


Problem with the plane: Ailerons were reversed........
