I have to build flaps into the Midwest At-6 kit but are they split or door style flaps ( no provision in the instructions) ? Better yet, could someone direct me to a full scale plane layout ? I downoaded a bunch of T6 photos , all were in level flight or static on the ground, nothing in scematic layout or of a plane landing.

Maybe someone already did this and has a few tips !!

The AT-6 has split flaps if I remember correctly. try contacting Bob Banka, he might have a 3-view drawing that shows the location of the flaps. Typically these type drop down 45 to 60 degrees. The spitfire with small split flaps would drop them almost 90 degrees to act as a brake. I have never seen a judge actually measure the flap angle so I never worried about it to much.

Bob probably has pictures of an AT-6 with the flaps down also, call him and he can help find what you need.

I have seen this done a couple of times on the Midwest kit but it is a little difficult. Due to its size and semi-scale design the wing gets to be rather thin at the trailing edge when you split the ribs. The 2 models I saw only had the center section flap due to this issue. I will make a phone call tonight, I know where you might be able to get a modified center section drawing for this kit. At one time there was a gentleman who offered a molded plastic dress-up kit for the Midwest kit. He also had the drawings I mentioned.

I'm the lucky owner (until I have to put gas in it) of a T-6....yes, indeed, it has split flaps, and incorporating them into a Midwest T-6 would be a challenge. I choose not to do that on my model, since the kit is not all that scale anyway and it wasn't worth the hassle. If you have good photos of the flaps down (taken from rear toward the nose of the a/c) you can see the structure pretty clearly.
Using them on the real version: wind generally down the runway I use full flaps (about 60 degrees), 80 knots over the fence. With any significant crosswind it is better to use partial flaps (20-35 degrees) as the airplane won't balloon as much. Later T-6 only had the outer flaps (center section was fixed) to try to eliminate that problem, as it increases the chances of a ground loop. I've landed the airplane without flaps, and outside of a faster approach and a quicker pay-off its no big deal.
Good luck with your model. I have yet to fly mine.
