After looking at the forums this weekend and wondering why there were very few post's, I realised that there was the Champ race and a Q500 race in Carolina. I was thinking about the great races that I had gone to in Texas and the Houston area in paticular. The Houston club has always put on GREAT races and has a wonderful facility for pylon. I know that all of the races have always been top notch with great turn outs. I am hoping that some of the older names in racing showed up for the champ race and everyone had a great time. I know that in past races you would see names like,, French, Cranfield, Tossi, Greer, Small, Hobbs, Stubblefield, Commer, The Ritches, Norman, Shadel, Jett, and many others that slip my mind at the moment. All of these guys have been racing for years and are very competative. I am sure that many others from all over the U.S. made the trip to Texas and have wonderful stories and Pictures to share with us. Like I said before, The Houston club has always put on wonderful races in the past and I hope that everyone had a good time.

It was a fun race, just got home about an hour ago. Great weather, fantactic food, and fun people.

Randy Bridge took 1st $1000
Dan Kane took 2nd $500
Travis Flynn took 3rd $250

Lots of great action, Several of the names you mentioned above were there. 3 Cranfields, Jerry Small, 1 Ritch (and the fuel worked great in my opinion (thank you)), Dubb, and I assume you meant Norm Johnson, not Me

The NMPRA had their raffle drawing and Pat G and Randy B. each one Polecats, and Chuck Anderson won a Quickee Jett.

It was by far the most fun I've had racing and if anyone's ever been up for a race at the NCPL you know that's saying something. ... Like Dave said the people were great and so was the food... This was the first "national" event I've attended and it was a great experience for me and I learned a lot.. I finished 18th out of 36 racers which was way above my expectations for the trip. Besides that, I took home my plane in one piece for the most part despite a mid-air in the last heat... In all it was a great time and I can't wait for Phoenix in Feb...

Thanks again to Dennis C. for putting on a great show and to everyone else who took the time to help me out in my first Q40 race.

In case anyone is interested, of the top 10 finishers, looks like:

7 Polecats / Little Mikes
2 Larson Vendetta's
1 Rusty Ashley

Most of the fastest times (Dan, Randy, Tom) were set with a Polecat.

If I got the numbers wrong above, please let me know. I think thats right.

We were also in "Jett country", more Jetts at a contest than I had ever seen before.

Mike, Rich, and Jacob were all running Jetts.

At Friday during practice, they had a radar gun set up about 300 feet back of Pylon #2 with a large digital display that would catch the speed of a plane coming into #2. The display was large enough for everyone on the line to see. I watched and flew a lot of planes on Friday, and the fastest planes I saw were Rich Beers in the 192-194 mph range, Dubb Jett in the 190-192 range, and Norm Johnson with speeds in the upper 180's to the lower 190's (all were jetts). Most of the Nelsons I saw were in the low to mid 180's with a few in the upper 180's, but not many.

The radar worked pretty good, except when there were multiple planes in the sky. It takes about 2 seconds to reset after a pass. Great tool to measure race course speeds.

Dave, the Radar gun was set at about 150 ft from the #2 pylon. We usually set it at 200. You get the most consistent results from being back, rather than standing at #2.

We also carry wind meters to try and get real with the data. You get between 50 and 75% of the benefit of the wind.

I have forgotten that you beat me. In fact, I think I won.

Allright, looks like we got a mystery poster.

Considering the handle, my fastest time ever, a short memory, I can only assume its Dubb himself

Welcome.

Good call Cole. I don't think Bruce had anything much lower than a mid 1:06, up til late in the going on Sunday... Then he posted 1:01.19 and took the fast time mark from Danny Kane ( 1:01.69 ) ... Good job by Bruce.
