Status: offline 		How would you compare your motor to the AXI line, 4120xx or 4130xx. I'm running a 4120-14 on 4s2p 4200 TPs and want to try a 5 cell pack.

As previously stated they are marketed in the US by Duralite, they are called the EVO 20 series of batteries able to discharge at 20C with 30C bursts, they come in all the usual mAh with the highest being 3700mAh thats 74amps continuous with 111amp bursts that should satisfy anyone.

My 2500 3S1P is doing sterling sevice at the moment in a PC9 with a small AXI outrunner this is the foam Ultrafly which has a big big smile factor. I have also put this battery on a Mega 22/30/3 at 47amps which it maintained for 7mins on a 14.5x7 folding prop.

These new generation batteries are going to transform some of my planes by wing loading allone.

Status: offline 		I too am running a 4120-14 APC 14X10 and want to get the most out of it. I am at the point were I need to crack open the safe and make a battery purchase. Should I go 4S2P 4200 or 5S2P and prop to a 13X10? Will the motor handle it?

Status: offline 		Mike, I tried a 5s setup on my groovy (4120/14) and had to prop down to a 12x8. still hit 59 amps static.I flew the plane 2-3 times that way and it had good performance ~1,100 watts, but, the prop/motor made a funny noise on a full throttle pass, like a buzz. Never figured out what that was, it might have been the prop flexing, or maybe being overdriven, not sure. I am guessing I was well above 10k rpms and thats not to great for these motors. So I switched to a 4120/18 and 5s with a 15x10.
I think a strong 4s battery that delivers lots of volts under load is a good bet with the 4120/14, sticking with a 14x10 or put some taller tires on and go 15x10. Try the hyperion vx 4s3700 packs from allerc.com , wait till you see the voltage under load.(3.5 3.6 volts a cell)
Mike, how old is your 4120/14, reason I ask is the first 4120/14s had a higher kv rating, then at some point model motors changed the design(you can tell old from new by looking at the case where the wires exit, if the case has 3 slots its newer , if the wires exit in a bunch thru 1 hole its the older design)
Any way the lower kv of the newer design might put up with a 5s setup better than my older design higher kv motor did.

The AXI 4120/14 is rated for 12-16 cells or 4-5 LiPo's and 55amps efficiency range is 20-40amps the recommended prop on 5 LiPo's is a 12x8 so going higher in pitch and diamiter is outside the recommended range for the motor. I have found on my 4130/16 that the recommended prop on 6S is a 16x10 but my Extra 300L flys best with a 15x10, I would not recommend going outside the design peramiters of the motor you may get some funny noises at WOT IMO.

Also you may get more out of the motor by reducing weight i.e. go for the Duralite Evo 20 batteries at 5S1P. have a look at http://rotorscmcp.free.fr/testlipo_GB.htm

forgive me for probably being extremely late on posting this to an 'old' thread but i have only just stumbled on this forum/thread.

I have just bought a Groovy 50 3A as a first pattern type plane although i have been flying for many years and for the last 3 of those only electric power having now given up slimy types now completely

I'm going to power mine with a Hyperion Z4025-12 and Hyperion 90A OPTO esc + uBec spinning a 14x10 APCe prop. I'm expecting around 900watts from 5S lipo cells. All but the lipos i now have.

I really don't know what make lipo's to buy as 5S seem to be hard to get hold of in the UK, can anyone point me in the right direction to buy some decent lipos from the US and a suitable charger/balancer as most of the chargers i have looked at seem to only charge up to 4S.

This will be my first experience at running anything over 3S 2000mah or GP NIMH packs so i'm a bit in the dark here, i have even considered buying both 3S ans 2S and putting these in series but it seems an expensive way of doing it.

any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Telephone +46 50313602, If you call before 13:00 he always deliver the order the same day. He has 15 years experience with electric flight and is competition with electrical planes.

To balance the batteries I am using Robe EQUALIZER, cost 35 €.
Sheap charger is Swallow advanced (max 50 Watt charging/ 2,5 A with 5S LiPo) and a more expensive is SCHULZE ISL6-330.

Flight Power are the people in England to buy from they do the whole nine yards i.e. cells in 2S and 3S up to 3700MaH and 20C continuous and 30C bursts, ballancers and chargers if you so wish, cannot recommend them highly enough, cells are already fitted with ballancing leads and you can also buy leads to fit to your existing LiPo's if you wish, you need Alusol Aluminium Solder which you get with the retro fit leads from them.

Status: offline 		It is intresting stuff. I have dicided to build the groovy for electric and go with the 4120/14 on 4S1P 3700's. Although I would like totally unlimted vertical, the context of the plane is a pattern ship which should fly at a constant speed. So I would guess that the lift to drag ratio will be high enough to give steep climb out when the aircraft is moving. I can always prop it up or change the motor. With the cost of the cells I don't want to buy them twice and the 4s configuration I use in a hotliner. If all else fails it will be easy to convert back to IC.

Running the Groovy last week in no wind it would not take off from the grass patch, which was not that long, so programmed in positive flap on the side slider of my Tx and it poped into the air no problem, have any of you guys had a problem with excessive take off length?

I am putting an Eflite Power 60 (same as AXI 4130?) and a 6s pack in my Groovy. Has anyone put any cooling holes for the battery in the belly pan behind the wing? How about in the bottom of the cowl for the motor/ESC?

So I did mine, AXI 4120-14 on 13 x 8 and 5S1P 3700. I made no attempt to lighten the model, standard size servos, standard size rx and rx battery etc. The plane flow very well locked in, but flight times were down approx 5.5 mins and not much more and had some near misses as I ran out of amps in the packs. So I have no remotored it for a Hypeiron 4020 14 on a 14 x 7 APC and what a diffrence. Flight times are no a comfortable 7.5 mins with loads of time left to land and taxi back. I guess the overall power output at the prop is about the same as AXI, similar speed and similar climb etc, the advanatges of running a bigger prop I guess at lower rpm.

Initial interference problems caused a few skipped heartbeats on the first flight
