Status: offline 		This is the inside. Notice my resistors in front of the fan. The switch I used fit perfectly in the hole left by the bundle of wires originally pouring out of the PS. This was pretty easy and fun. I have been wanting a bench top PS for a long time. I had no idea how easy it would be to build one.

Mine is a 400 watt unit from [url]www.dealsonic.com[/url] I used two resistors because the author of the article I read told me to. I honestly don't know ohms law well enough to prove why or why not.

In order to put the two resistors in paralell, simply lay them side by side, twist the endd together, and tin. Attach the five volt wires to each end of the two and you are in business. Look at my picture of the inside, if you cannot see what you need to, shoot me a PM and I will get a photo to you late tonight. I have to go to school now.

I did not shop this around very well. I don't know that brand/product. I saw the Triton, and a local flyer I respect bought one, so I did too. Shamless, but not stupid. I use what the smart people use as much as I can. I hope that comes out right. I am talking about MYSELF not anyone else.


I will share any knoledge I can. Thanks to all the great guys who have posted and helped people like me.

So use two RED wires on the end of EACH Resistor and tie
the other ends togeher? NO GROUND? like I have now..

This is right? I now just have ONE resistor with one red wire (+5)
on one end and the black (ground) on the other side

Status: offline 		Twist the ends of the resistors together.
Connect a red wire to one side and a black to the other.

Careful, they will get WARM

The pic is just an example with some resistors from my junkbox.
Note, these are not the proper value or wattage

So will 2 be better then ONE? (resistor)

Also I noticed in some supplys that there running
ALL the Yellow together and the Blacks Ect.. so I now
need to beef up my wiring? I just removed them all
and left what I needed. I could add more tho.. you tell me!

Status: offline 		The number of resistors depends on how many ohms you are shooting for. I showed 2 because the previous post asked about 2.

I think you will want around 5 ohms of total resistance. A 5 ohm load on the 5 volt line should give a current of 1 amp. This will also generate 5 watts of heat in the resistor. When using resistors of equal value in parallel, the effective resistance is half.
So, to get a 5 ohm total, you would use 2 10's in parallel.

I just went back and looked at your pics. Your single resistor will be just fine. The current will be about 715ma and will dissapate 3.6 watts. Since you have 12.6 volts you will be OK

For the wires to carry the 12V current, there is no need to use more than 2 yellows and 2 blacks

I don't use resistors at all. I use a halogen bulb from a fog light.
